From tomorrow,, the maximum cost for most PBS medicines in Australia will drop from $31.60 to $25 for general patients, with new listings also making treatments for cancer, menopause, endometriosis, arthritis, and eye conditions cheaper, while concession cardholders' $7.70 co-payment remains frozen until 2030. This is part of the government's "Cheaper Medicines" initiative, building on earlier cuts and 60-day prescriptions, to reduce the cost of living.

The PBS Safety Net is an Australian government program that reduces the cost of prescription medicines under the Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme (PBS) after individuals or families reach a certain spending threshold in a calendar year, offering cheaper or free medications for the rest of the year, with different thresholds for general and concession cardholders.
