Integrative Bodywork: Bodywork [Advanced Massage therapy] at HIMAL is a synergistic blend of western and eastern techniques derived from the pioneering work of great masters of the healing arts in Chiang Mai. The Thai system of therapeutic bodywork with its historic connections to the Indian and Chinese systems is at the core, enhanced by a host of other techniques ranging from modalities. Mathew has undergone rigorous training with teachers like Acharn Sinchai Sukparsert, David Lutt, Ralf Marzen, Jack Chaiya, Remco Van de Visch and has also completed the Thai government certified teacher training [GCT 300] course at TMC, Chiang Mai. Chi Nei Tsang: an ancient Taoist form of abdominal and internal organ massage unknown to the western world until it was recently revived and propagated by Master Mantak Chia. It has profound effects on the central and autonomic nervous systems besides its direct effects on internal organs and is invaluable in the management of a wide range of physical, mental and emotional problems. A special feature of bodywork at HIMAL is the integration of Chi Nei Tsang with the gentle fascia techniques from the Osteothai system. Reflexology: based on the concept of microsystems in the feet, hands, face, and ears that represent the whole body. Traditional knowledge holds that pressure points within these microsystems have beneficial effects on the body through reflex mechanisms. Naturopathy: The ancient healing art of naturopathy is traditionally rooted in the concept of self-healing and the process of nurturing the inherent vital force. Based on the 5 element theory with an emphasis on healthy lifestyle, it is a complete system of physical, mental, emotional and spiritual wellbeing freely available to all. Modern naturopathy however seems to be drifting inexorably towards a product-oriented business model outsourced to the burgeoning nutraceutical industry. While disillusionment with the conventional pharmaceutical industry and its hegemony over the medical profession might be a significant factor, it could be argued that we may be trading one form of dependence for another, albeit safer and less harmful. The HIMAL approach seeks to retrace naturopathy to its roots whilst utilizing health products such as herbs, homoeopathy and supplements where needed in accordance with the basic principles and philosophy of traditional naturopathy.
