Welcome to Adam's story.
Adam is only 34 years old. He is kind, caring and would go out of his way to help anyone, now is our chance to return the favour to such a gentle soul. Adam and his fiancƩ Ashley have a beautiful family with their 5 children, Azaria 12, Oscar 12, Kyrese 10, Ollie 9 and Sarayah 7.
Every year the family travel with 2 vehicles towing their camping gear from Toowoomba to Hervey Bay to spend the holidays basking on the beaches, exploring, fishing, camping and enjoying family activities.
On Thursday the 4th of April 2024, Adam and Ashley packed up from their holiday in Hervey Bay camping with their kids. With Ashley in the Tucson towing the trailer following a short distance behind Adam in the Kia Carnival who was also towing the camper trailer as they made their journey home. After a quick stop for morning tea, they were back on the road for the remaining 3 hour leg of the journey home. Unfortunately, they did not make it home that day.
With 3 of the children in the car, on the highway driving at 100km/h Adam had a seizure behind the wheel. All Ashley could do from the other car was have faith in the safety technology in the vehicle and watch the Kia uncontrolled during the episode eventually, terrifyingly come to a stop, off to the side of the road.
With quick action, Ashley assessed the situation and called emergency responders who took Adam to Kingaroy Hospital for assessment. And this is where the news came, the life of this family would never be the same again. A CT scan was done revealing a mass in his left temporal lobe. Adam was urgently flown to the Princess Alexandra Hospital in Brisbane via the Royal Flying Doctors Service.
After an anxious and frightening wait Adam was told that he would need an awake craniotomy by the Head of Neurosurgery to resect the tumor in his brain. The left part of the brain is often associated with analytical thinking, logic, language processing, and mathematical abilities. It governs the right side of the body and is responsible for tasks such as speech production, reading, and writing. Not only is this surgery time critical for his life, it is dangerous and comes with its own risks. If Adam does not have this surgery his life expectancy is unknown.
With the surgery, we will know the severity of the tumor. The outcome of this first surgery will determine if his life is dependent on the growth rate and ability to have further parts of his brain removed as it becomes affected or if it can be treated with chemotherapy and radiation.
Along with this huge impact that the family needs to adjust to, there is also continuation of life and stress on the family, including Adamās loss of being able to work for the foreseeable future, accommodation, medication, travel, time off work for Ashley to care for Adam as well as care for the kids and household.
Our goal is to help support Adam and Ashley to manage these hard times with as much support as possible, even if this means offering a small donation to help support this beautiful family, while the timeframe for recovery is still unknown and there is a long road ahead, we would love to support them and remain hopeful that one day they get to spend another holiday at the beachside as a family like they deserve.
