Confirmed Case of measles
The Darling Downs Public Health Unit confirmed earlier this week, there has been a confirmed case of measles in our community. As a result, the community is urged to be on high alert for measles symptoms.
What is Measles?
Measles is a serious viral infection that can lead to serious illness and complications. It is easily spread through the air via tiny droplets when an infected person coughs or sneezes.
It is highly contagious and can be passed on to others, even before symptoms appear.
What are the symptoms of Measles?
Cold, Fever, Cough, Runny nose, Red sore eyes,
Red blotchy rash that starts on the face and spreads down the body. The rash usually starts a few days later and can last approx. 1 week.
If you are experiencing symptoms:
You are encouraged to seek medical attention if feeling unwell
Call ahead and inform about possible measles before visiting your healthcare provider. Provide details of your symptoms.
Avoid others, especially babies, those who are pregnant and anyone with compromised immunity

If you are experiencing symptoms, to protect your safety, and the safety of others, the following protocols will be followed should you seek medical attention at:

1. Please phone the practice to speak with our Reception team
2. Our team will ask a number of screening questions. Please state the symptoms you are experiencing
3.Our team will assist to make a booking, either face-to-face or telehealth if eligible and appropriate
4. If presenting to the practice for a face-to-face appointment, you will be asked to call the practice once you have parked and notify of your arrival.
5. You will be asked to wait in your car. The Doctor will call you when ready to see you and provide next instructions
6. Your Doctor will be wearing PPE when they see you. You will also be asked to wear a mask.
7. The initial assessment will take place at your car. At the discretion of the Doctor, you may be taken into a designated consult room for further examination.
8. We ask for your cooperation to follow all instructions provided to you by our team
