Paracetamol in Pregnancy: What You Need to Know

You may have seen overseas headlines linking paracetamol use in pregnancy with autism and ADHD. These claims have caused concern — but the science doesn’t support them.

💡 General advice? Probably best not to take medical advice from presidents… Better to check in with your pharmacist or doctor, who rely on trusted evidence and guidance.

Here’s what the Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) and Pharmaceutical Society of Australia (PSA) confirm:
🔹 Paracetamol is Pregnancy Category A — safe when used as directed.
🔹 No causal link has been found with autism or ADHD.
🔹 Treating pain and fever in pregnancy remains important for mother and baby.

Did you know the Australian Asthma Handbook has just gone through major updates that change how asthma in adults and adolescents should be managed? 

Here’s what’s changed (without the medical jargon):
• For everyone 12 years and older, just using a quick-reliever inhaler alone isn’t considered enough any more 
• There are now more effective “anti-inflammatory reliever” options and updated treatment plans that aim to reduce flare-ups and keep asthma more stable in the long run 

If you’ve been relying only on a “blue puffer”, or your asthma symptoms have increased, or you’ve had flare-ups recently — it’s a good time to make sure your plan reflects the latest evidence.

We regularly hold expos, and events to focus on particular issues, and conditions. We also participate in many fundraising campaigns to assist local and national groups, primarily those which are involved with healthcare research. Our staff undergo rigorous and ongoing training to ensure that they are up to date with health conditions and products that are used to treat them.
