Put her down, they said.
You’ll make a rod for your own back, they said.
She needs to learn not to need you, they said.
She’ll never be able to stand on her own two feet if you carry her that much, they said.
You’ll hurt your back, they said.
You’ll make her clingy, they said.
You’ll spoil her, they said.

I said “No.”

My child is a confident, securely attached explorer.
She can stand on her own two feet, run, climb, ride a bike.
She is kind to others.
She is able to ask for my help when she needs it.
She is able to share her feelings with me.
She has a happy brain.
I don’t regret a single second of keeping her close and meeting her needs.
It was exhausting.
It was all worth it.
