Lifeline Darling Downs & South West QLD Ltd

Lifeline Darling Downs & South West QLD Ltd We offer a broad range of services focused on strengthening communities and empowering people. For Our Values: Integrity. Dignity. Openness. Honesty.

Lifeline Toowoomba, as it was originally known, was formed by a group of ministers in 1975. It was developed to establish a 24 hour telephone counselling service for the people of Toowoomba. Lifeline Darling Downs & South West Queensland Ltd (LDDSWQL) is now a company limited by guarantee, governed by a voluntary Board of Directors. A large regional NGO (non government organisation), with 160 plus paid staff, over 400 dedicated volunteers, an annual turnover exceeding $12M per annum and covering an extensive area with a population of approximately 255,000 people, LDDSWQL is committed to sustainable growth that works within the parameters of its Vision, Mission and Values. We partner with the wider community, working from a strengths based approach. That is, working with people in order to empower them to make the best possible decisions in their own life, and for their own community. A values based organisation, it remains committed to ensuring people always remain its focus. LDDSWQL relies on financial support from local communities, corporate sponsors and the Queensland State and Federal Governments. You can help support the services LDDSWQL provides by making donations through our clothing bins, shopping with our wide network of retail shops, making a cash donation or through in-kind support such as through volunteering. Accountability. Respect

🗣️ Starting conversations about gambling and gaming early and approaching them without judgment can make a huge difference in helping your child develop healthy habits.

Here are some tips for parents and carers:

🟢 Create a safe, open space where your child feels comfortable sharing their thoughts.
🟢 Ask gentle questions about their gaming habits and any in-game spending.
🟢 Explain the risks involved with gambling-like features in games, like loot boxes or microtransactions.
🟢 Set clear boundaries around screen time and spending.
🟢 Encourage balance with other activities to support mental well-being.

Remember, your understanding and support can empower your child to make safer choices. Lifeline Darling Downs & South West QLD is here to help if you need advice or support.

Last week, we were honoured to join the Dalby community at the Dalby Leagues Club for a powerful R U OK? Day event themed “Don’t Get Stuck in the Mud”, and what better way to bring that message to life than with gumboots!

Over 100 decorated gumboots were showcased, each telling a unique story of resilience, hope, and connection. Among them were several pairs created by participants of Lifeline Darling Downs & South West QLD’s programs in Dalby and Toowoomba. These boots will now be displayed throughout Dalby Shopping World for the next two weeks, a vibrant and meaningful reminder to check in with those around us.

We were proud to be part of the event with an information stall, engaging in conversations that help raise awareness of the support we offer across Dalby and the surrounding communities.

A heartfelt thank you to everyone who contributed to this inspiring event. Your creativity, compassion and community spirit truly shone through.

💙 Did You Mean to Donate This? 💙

This wallet was donated to us in Toowoomba over the past 72 hours, and we think the generous individual may have accidentally left something inside.

Whilst we are incredibly grateful, we are appealing to that person to contact us to let us know if the extra something in the wallet was supposed to be donated with it.

Just in case this was an accident, before returning the item, we will be asking what was inside and where they donated it.

A simple question – “Are you OK?” – has the power to change someone’s day, or even their life.

In the rush of our never-ending to-do lists, it’s easy to forget our most important task: looking after ourselves. Checking in with others matters, but so does taking time to pause, breathe, and care for your own well-being.

It’s always good to ask “R U OK?” to others – but this R U OK? Day, take a moment to ask yourself, “Am I OK?” Your mental health matters just as much as anyone else’s.

At Lifeline Darling Downs & South West QLD, our counsellors are here to listen without judgement, offer guidance, and walk alongside you through life’s challenges. You are never alone – whether you’re struggling yourself or supporting someone else, we’re here 24/7.
