Our Story
Carbal originated from the efforts of Aboriginal people to establish a culturally safe and secure health service in Toowoomba that could comprehensively address health needs. Carbal Medical Centre (Carbal) is an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Community Controlled Health Care Organisation (ATSICCHO).
Carbal is the tribal totem (carpet snake) for the Traditional Owners of the land on which Darling Downs resides - the Jarrowair and Giabal people.
Carbal is continuously reviewing processes and practices to ensure that the client’s journey through our organisation meets the medical, health, social and cultural needs of our clients. We have a dedicated multidisciplinary team of individuals who work hard to try and close the gap that exists between the health outcomes in the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander population and the rest of contemporary Australian society.
Carbal strives to provide ‘Excellence in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander primary health care in a Caring and culturally aware environment’. Apart from the full service GP clinics in Toowoomba and Warwick, Carbal delivers a large number of health programs on behalf of the State and Commonwealth governments.
In line with our accreditation bodies, Carbal strives to provide ‘Excellence in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Primary Health Care in a Caring and Confidential Environment’.
