What is Exercise Physiology?
Exercise Physiology is the practice of using exercise as medicine to treat chronic disease or injury.
Accredited Exercise Physiologists (AEP’s) are Allied Health clinicians with at least 4 years of university training. Exercise Physiologists are accredited through Exercise and Sports Science Australia (ESSA) and are recognised by compensable schemes such as Work Cover (SIRA), CTP, Department of Veterans Affairs (DVA), Medicare and most Private Health Funds. They are qualified experts in exercise prescription with the knowledge to treat clientele ranging from healthy populations to a range of chronic disease, injury and illness.
Chronic conditions and treatable issues may include:
Chronic (greater than 3months) musculoskeletal injury
Post Orthopaedic surgery
Workplace injury
Mental health
Metabolic diseases such as diabetes I & II, Hypertension and Hypercholesteremia
Neurological conditions such as Parkinson’s Disease, Multiple Sclerosis and Huntington’s Disease
Stroke and traumatic brain injury
Cardiovascular disease
Cancer
Cerebral Palsy
Deconditioning, balance and falls prevention
Strength and conditioning
