🫶Let your intentions flow!

Ok we are at that time of the year that we are starting to set out sights and intentions for 2025!

This could come with A LOT of mixed feelings.

I'd like to invite you to do 2 things.

👉The first is to be kind to yourself. I’m sure this has been a big year.

Allow a deep breath and find space and self compassion🙏.

👉The second,
To set realistic foundations focusing on that behaviour change we spoke about last week. We can do
this by setting SMART intentions. SMART is an acronym for
➢ Specific
➢ Measureable
➢ Achievable
➢ Realistic
➢ Time based

I'm going to give you an example of one of my intentions for next year..

To eat my dinner mindfully at the table with my partner 4 out of 7 nights each week starting from
Monday to Thursday.

Ok we are at that time of the year that we are starting to set out sights and intentions on 2025!

This could come with alot with lots of mixed feelings.

The second is to set some realistic foundations focusing on that behaviour change we spoke about last week NOT WEIGHT!

We can do this by setting SMART intentions.

SMART is an aconym for specific, measureable, achievable, realistic and time based.

Diet culture has well and truly frazzeled us.

It's confusing. Trying to understanding what's normal and not normal, healthy vs unhealthy eating.

Going back to basics and dispelling food myths and unhealthy food beliefs (you may have grown up with) with Non Diet Dietitian is a must 👌

👉Why I focus on eating hehaviour rather weight loss 🥰

So last week I talked about getting unstuck from the dieting cycle. If you missed it, head back and check it out!

Today I wanted to discuss why I focus on health behaviours. But first, what actually is a behaviour?

It's what a person does to make something happen, to make something change or to keep things the same.

Weight loss isn't a behaviour! 🫨

It's not something you are doing or not doing!

Let's talk about some eating behaviours..If we add behaviours specific to eating some examples could look like;

👉Eating 3 main meals and 3 midmeals
👉Having 5 serves of vegetables and 2 serves of fruit
👉Eating a variety of foods across all macronutrients; carbs, protein and fats
👉Eating to the point of uncomfortable fullness.

If I was to focus on weight loss, this would involve some type of dietary restriction, this would not address the eating behaviours at the core of the issue and may even make your eating behaviours worse. Sure, we may see some short term weight loss however, as discussed from my newsletter last week however we know that diets and restrictive eating patterns do not work long term.

By focusing on the eating behaviour, the outcome may or may not be weight loss!

This is the time that food noise get's ramped up, there's a feeling of expectation and judgement from others, dresses that you are trying on from last year don't feel good.

I get it! It's a tough time. You may have started googling or getting ads for the quick weight loss solution.

I want you to STOP right there! if diets worked, we wouldn't be in this situation year after year looking to start a new one!

The evidence shows that 75% of individuals who start a diet will regain the weight they have lost and more, leading to think that they have failed the diet however the diet has actually failed you!

#1 I'm a mermaid 🧜‍♀️ 🤣
My grandfather built our family beach house along the Great Ocean Road. When i was little I used to swim until I turned blue and duck under the waves each time my mum called me back. Sorry mum!

#2 I was a horse obsessed teenager. I read every single book about horses in the school library. My teachers were concerned about me and told me I needed to expand my range of literature choices! Every minute sitting in class I was daydreaming about my horse 🐎

#3 I don't like cooking. What! You're a Dietitian they say! Yep. Doesn't mean I like cooking. Luckily my amazing fiance does most of it and I enjoy the eating! This makes me a master of how to keep eating simple 😂
