BEETS health benefits according to Chinese Medicine nutrition ๐ŸŽ

Do you recommend Seed Cycling to your female patients?
๐ŸŒฐ In my practice, I treat a lot of women with hormonal imbalances, and many come in especially for fertility support. With each patient, I form a TCM diagnosis and an individualized treatment plan, which always includes nutrition.

๐ŸŒฐ Enter: Seeds and Seed Cycling!

Are you familiar with this western nutritional support to help balance womenโ€™s hormones?

๐ŸŒฐ Usually, 4 kind of seeds are added to the diet daily, and rotated based on the follicular and luteal phases.
- From Day 1 to Day 14 (or until ovulation): it is recommended to take 1 tablespoon each of flax seeds and pumpkin seeds daily.
- And from Day 15 (or after ovulation) to Day 28, or until menstruation starts: itโ€™s recommended to take 1 tablespoon each sunflower and sesame seeds daily.

๐ŸŒฐ Lots of studies show pumpkin seeds are high in zinc which supports progesterone release and flax seeds contain lignans which block excess estrogen. Sesame seeds, also contain lignans, while sunflower seeds provide the body with selenium, assisting the liver in detoxification.

How does TCM fit into this equation?

๐ŸŒฐ In Chinese medicine, seeds are said to help tonify TCM Kidneys and nourish Essence, which in turn can help the reproductive system. Seeds are great for fertility. Because we need a seed to create a seed (a fetus)!

๐ŸŒฐ I really love that both western and eastern nutrition recommend seeds for fertility!
Below, I created a quick chart with the properties and functions of seeds and nuts according to TCM. My favourites are sunflowers seeds, almonds and pistachios. May be because all 3 lubricate the Large Intestine ๐Ÿ˜€

The Three Jiao divisions. The three Jiao divisions have been well established by our Chinese Medicine history.

It is generally easy to see the divisions. By just separating the tongue into three parts.

This is the easy way.

Based on Chinese Medicine theory, there are two important points:

โ–บ The upper red dot is called the umbilicus, it is called the Qi Point.
โ–บ The lower red dot is called the Zheng Qi point which originates from the Ren Channel.

And it is from these two lines that you draw a horizontal line which separates the Three Jiaos.

The Three Jiaos identified on the tongue should be in proportion with the Three Jiaos of our body. And so having these important markers makes for a more accurate diagnosis.

โญ๏ธ TCM Foundation Time! โญ๏ธ
The TCM Lung and Large Intestine relationship as Yin/Yang related systems is interesting.
- LI & LU both manifest on the skin. Environmental allergies can create itchy red skin, and chronic constipation can result in pimples on the face.
- LI & LU relate to the immune system. Probiotics reside in the Large intestine to fight bad bacterias, and Lung controls our Wei Qi (defence system).
- If LI Qi stagnates (constipation), it may result in shortness of breath affecting the LU.
- If LU Qi is deficient, LI wonโ€™t have the strength to defecate.

Some thoughts on Extraordinary Vessels and Autonomic Nervous System

Extraordinary Vessels are the first channels that we develop since foetal stages. They govern our prenatal developments and maturation until our regular channels are matured. They are connected with our ๅ…ƒๆฐฃ Yuan Qi/Source Qi, and function as the axis, longitudes and latitudes of our sphere.

้™ฝ็ถญ Yang Wei regulates the sympathetic nervous system. It governs the internal aspect of our relation to the world and our subjective experiences of the world. It regulates our temperature, so it treats sensation of chills and heat.

้™ฐ็ถญ Yin Wei regulates the social aspect of the ANS. It governs the connection with the inner self. It regulates our images/evaluations of the self, so it treats painful sensation in the heart.

้™ฝ่นป Yang Qiao regulates the sympathetic and social aspect of the ANS. It governs the active expression of the self in the world. It balances with Yin Qiao. It keeps the Yang aspects of the body flexible and relaxed and pulls against Yin Qiao so it will not become flaccid or loose.

้™ฐ่นป Yin Qiao regulates the sympathetic and social aspect of the ANS. It governs the inner aspect/ego of the self in the world. It balances with Yang Qiao by keeping the Yin aspects of the body flexible and relaxed and pulls against Yang Qiao so it will not become flaccid or loose.

Chong Mai, Ren Mai and Du Mai are the three axil centers located on our sagittal plane. They keep us centered and grounded.

็ฃ่„ˆ Du Mai regulates the sympathetic and social aspect of the ANS. It governs all the Yang of the entire body. It is like a father or a leader role. It regulates the ascending of Yang Qi and sends it from Ming Men to the Upper Jiao, all the way up to the top of the head. It pushes the Water Wheel up along the spine. It excites the sympathetic nervous system and allows us to positively and energetically deal with the world and stand up for ourselves.

ไปป่„ˆ Ren Mai regulates the parasympathetic and social aspect of the ANS. It governs all the Yin of the entire body. It is like a mother or a container/listener role. It regulates the descending of Yang Qi and gathers it into the Lower Jiao. It calms the heart spirit and soothes the sympathetic nervous system. It allows the parasympathetic nervous system to process turbidity and send it downwards. It also regulates our emotions and internal processes.

ๆฒ–่„ˆ Chong Mai primarily regulates the parasympathetic aspect of the ANS. It deals with the "core" of the self, aka our authenticity. It governs the dynamics and rhythms of our essence, Yin and Yang, also the arrival and rhythms of the Heavenly Yin Water, which affects our maturation, reproduction and spreading of the Liver Qi. It governs the pre-natal aspect of the self and assist other systems to regulate all three aspects of the ANS on a deep level.

ๅธถ่„ˆ Dai Mai regulates the parasympathetic and social aspect of the ANS. It loosens during pregnancy in women and tightens afterwards. It sets boundaries between the self and the world. It secures Yuan Qi above the Middle Jiao and prevents it from leaking downwards. It holds warmth and space for the world that we interact with and assist the Middle Jiao to process it.
