If you’re one of those people who has left their festive prep for the next few days (*ahem, guilty 🙋🏻), take a moment to go over our tips to help you get through with your Christmas spirit intact 🎄

💧 Hydrate like it’s your job
Alcohol, heat, stress = dehydration. Start the day with water before coffee or bubbles. A quality electrolyte is essential.

🍳 Prioritise protein (every meal if you can)
It stabilises blood sugar, curbs cravings and stops you living off shortbread and cheese alone. Need to top up with a protein powder?

😴 Sleep when you can - it all adds up
Late nights happen. A little rest here and there is still valuable. Consider a sleep support supplement.

🧂 Don’t skip meals “to save calories”
That always backfires by 4pm with snacks + wine. Just be sensible, your body needs fuel for all that running around.

🚶‍♂️ Move a little, stress less

I don’t know about you, but one of my biggest challenges when it comes to a healthy social life is handling all the parties and drinking 🍾

I don’t want to lose the healthy progress I’ve made, but I also don’t want to be a “stick in the mud” at parties. I firmly believe we all deserve to have fun (life is for living), so sitting back and not having a little indulgence doesn’t quite cut it for me. Add in the social pressure from friends when you’re trying to be “good”, and it gets even harder.

The problem for me is I probably know a little too much about stress, alcohol, food and lack of sleep. It’s a brutal combination for the body.

🍰But I like to have my cake and eat it too (excuse the pun).

So what do I do? And how do I avoid the hangover?

❌ PROBLEM 1
I know the toxic effects alcohol and lack of sleep have on cortisol. After just two drinks, cortisol begins to rise. Fat burning switches off and fat storage switches on. Add extra calories and you’ve got a weight gain train wreck. It’s basically like amplifying the fat-gaining effect of pure sugar.

✅ SOLUTION 1
I take four capsules of Rest & Relax (or other adaptogenic herbs) before drinking and again before bed. This helps keep cortisol under control, reduces inflammation and improves sleep quality.

❌ PROBLEM 2
Alcohol and party foods. Alcohol promotes fat storage, increases oestrogen load and lowers testosterone, which is even worse for weight management. It also disrupts gut bacteria and strips the body of key vitamins and minerals. Most hangovers come down to poor detoxification, dehydration, nutrient depletion and gut disruption.

✅ SOLUTION 2
I drink Gutright before a big night and again the next day. I also combine it with an electrolyte mix before and after drinking. Honestly a lifesaver this time of year.

By doing this, I’m offsetting as much of the damage as possible. I can enjoy the celebrations without blowing out or feeling terrible the next day. If only I knew this at uni!

🎻 When everything in your body is balanced, everything plays together beautifully - your gut microflora, vitamins, minerals, hormones… like a symphony with every instrument in harmony 🎼

🥁 But when one section gets too loud, things go sideways fast.

💊 Too much of one nutrient? It can drown out another (think zinc & copper ratio, or overdoing a probiotic strain).

Welcome to Australian Nutrition Centre

We admit we are a little different. A Pharmacist-run Natural health store and Health Clinic. A little bit ironic for some, but we know we’re on to something unique and special. Our team includes a Naturopath too. Whether it be just retail or in our clinic, we practice and promote holistic and integrative health. What that means is, we treat the underlying issue.
