We actually hear this every day and most of the time, you’re right.

Your gut isn’t just about digestion. It’s talking to your brain all day. Influencing your mood, energy, focus, stress response… even how your body stores fat.

So when your gut is off, it rarely shows up as just “bloating”. You may experience brain fog, anxiety, low energy, skin issues, stubborn weight, poor sleep and more.

What we see most often is a combination of:
👉 underfeeding the gut and not feeding the gut microbiome sufficiently.
👉 ongoing inflammation - ultra-processed foods, alcohol and stress load.
👉 medication history (antibiotics, acid blockers, heavy painkillers).
👉 imbalances like bacterial overgrowth or parasites.

On top of that, a lot of people jump straight to probiotics without considering correct species and strain or turn to ultra restrictive diets that may have negative impacts if continued long term.

We prefer to start with the basics:
👉 feeding the gut with a variety of prebiotic fibres (real food first, PHGG if needed).
👉 calming inflammation and providing stress support.
👉 supporting digestion where needed, enzymes or stomach acid support.
👉 guidance on structuring your diet in a way that supports gut function, reduces triggers and remains practical and nutritionally balanced.
👉 layering in targeted supplements based on what’s actually going on and needed.

Same applies to kids too by the way. We’re seeing more tummy issues, skin flare-ups, behaviour changes… and often the gut is a big piece of the puzzle.

This isn’t just a theory, it’s well backed by research (Nature, JAMA, CSIRO) showing how closely your gut and brain are connected, and how your gut health can impact how you feel day to day.

If you’re struggling with this, or you know someone who is and you just want a starting point - reach out!

Before we even do a deep dive or look at blood tests…sometimes your body leaves clues 👀

🧩The way you store weight.
🧩Your skin.
🧩Your facial features.
🧩Even how you move in general.

We notice. And just like a good detective, we look for signs, clues and patterns. Not just problems 🕵️‍♂️

Bariatric surgery not only significantly reduces the amount of food you eat but it can also significantly reduce your stomach acid.

And that has bigger consequences than most people realise.

The stomach is critical for nutrient absorption. It uses acid to break down food and release nutrients, and produces intrinsic factor, which is essential for vitamin B12 absorption.

When this process is impaired:
🚩Protein digestion drops → harder to maintain muscle.
🚩Key nutrients like iron, B12, calcium, and zinc are poorly absorbed.
🚩B12 deficiency becomes common, leading to fatigue, brain fog, low mood, and nerve symptoms.
🚩Bloating, reflux, early fullness, and bacterial overgrowth can develop.

Over time, this can look like “doing everything right” but still feeling flat, weak, or not progressing.

What helps:
💫Prioritising easy-to-digest, high-quality protein.
💫Regular monitoring of nutrients, especially B12.
💫Using B12 forms that bypass digestion (sublingual or injections if needed).
💫Targeted supplementation where required.
💫Digestive support like bitters, enzymes, or hydrochloric acid (when appropriate).

Don’t just prioritise eating less, focus on whether you can actually break down, absorb, and use what you can eat.

As we age, muscle breaks down faster, especially with low appetite, illness, poor digestion, and low fluid intake.

Less muscle means weakness, higher fall risk, slower recovery, and ultimately, reduced independence.

The common advice is to use high calorie shakes.

The issue is, they are often high in sugar, relatively low in key muscle-building nutrients, and not always well absorbed.

This may increase body weight without improving strength or function.

What actually matters, and is often deficient:

Protein:
Aim for 20–30g per meal. This is the main driver of muscle repair and maintenance. Soft, slow cooked or puréed meats if need be. Add a quality protein powder to help hit those targets.

Calcium HMB:
Helps reduce muscle breakdown and supports preservation of lean muscle mass in ageing.

Vitamin D + K2:
Vitamin D supports muscle strength and function, while K2 helps direct calcium into bones where it belongs.

Creatine:
Supports strength, energy, and muscle mass. Also beneficial for cognitive function.

Magnesium:
Supports muscle function, relaxation, and bowel regularity.
Often low and important for both strength and digestion.

PHGG (partially hydrolysed guar gum):
A gentle, well-tolerated fibre that supports bowel regularity and gut health without causing bloating. Helps to treat both constipation and diarrhoea.

Digestive support:
Poor digestion leads to poor absorption. If food is not properly broken down, nutrients are not effectively used.

Hydration:
Many older adults reduce fluid intake to avoid frequent urination, but this worsens fatigue, constipation, and muscle function.
Even mild dehydration can have a negative effect.

If this is what you’re currently navigating, come and see us. We’ll talk you through ways to support strength and muscle, not just “put on weight”.

😩 Overworked and underpaid…Your liver is doing more for you than you think.
Filtering toxins, balancing hormones, breaking down fats, supporting digestion, and helping regulate metabolism. All day, every day.

When it’s under pressure, you’ll often feel it as fatigue, bloating, skin flare-ups, hormone imbalances, poor tolerance to fatty foods.

And it might be one of the reasons weight loss feels harder than it should. If your liver is under pressure, your metabolism usually is too!

We’ve got a great range of liver-loving blends and simple protocols we use in clinic to help take the pressure off and get things moving again.

If this sounds like you and you think liver’s been working overtime…maybe it’s time to return the favour 😅.

Come in and ask us about our favourite liver supporting products!

Our team includes a Naturopath too. Whether it be just retail or in our clinic, we practice and promote holistic and integrative health. What that means is, we treat the underlying issue. We don’t put bandaids on things. Not sure if we can help you? Well just send us a message to find out!
