Wow oh wow… what a day!
It feels like every Thursday we say this, but somehow each week is even more jam packed with incredible moments than the last.
Today we welcomed Tanya to the crew, and honestly… she really didn’t want to leave😁 Unfortunately there’s this little thing called “work” that eventually dragged her away. We also welcomed Cathy back, who got to check in using our phenomenal app created by our very own President Andrew 🎉 up in the welcoming gazebo. One thing our volunteers always know is this, no matter how long you can stay, you are always welcome at Sailability Townsville.
Speaking of volunteers… our apprentice Social Media Officer Kris Harber was out capturing today’s action, and WOW did we have action! Anthony was absolutely carving up the river with his “P” plates on, and there was so much excitement happening that Queensland Police Service even stopped by to say hello 👋 We also celebrated TWO birthdays today 🎂
Happy Birthday to Leanne and Skipper! Thank you Leanne for making time in your day to bring Skipper along, you both absolutely light up our welcome gazebo 💙 A huge thank you to all our amazing volunteers for making the day so special. From welcoming newcomers and visitors, to chatting with curious drive-bys, you are the heart of what makes Sailability Townsville the place to be on a Thursday morning.... And of course, thank you to all our participants who braved the quirky windy conditions that rolled in today... Jack, Chelsea, Carly, Tom, Glen, Luke, Anthony, and Paul ⛵
What a crew. What a community. What a Thursday 💙

Important Update from Sailability Townsville for Thursday 14th of May.
Our hoist is currently away for repairs. While this work is being completed, sailors who require the hoist for transfers will unfortunately be unable to sail temporarily. Sailing sessions will continue as normal for participants who do not require the hoist.
We understand this may be disappointing for some of our sailors and families, and we sincerely appreciate your patience and understanding while we work to have the hoist returned by next week, Thursday 21st of May. Safety and accessibility remain incredibly important to us, and we look forward to welcoming everyone back on the water next week.

⛵Today Olivia and Oda received their volunteer shirts and continued honing their support boat and sailing skills out on the water. Watching confidence grow week by week is something really special to witness. Terry also received his volunteer shirt today and was up in the welcoming gazebo working his magic using the fantastic app designed and created by our very own president Andrew. What legends we have at Sailability Townsville, people generously sharing their time, talents and hearts to create something truly meaningful for our community.
Our apprentice social media officer Kris Harber, from Bentley Farm - Disability Support & Respite - Townsville, also dropped in and worked his magic behind the camera. Keep an eye out over the coming days for more interviews, stories and moments from our sailors and volunteers. Real stories. Real people. Real community. Right here at Sailability Townsville.
We also welcomed Liam, Rebecca, Sam, Carly, Luke, Glen, Graeme, Janae, Joanne, Paul, Andrew and Anthony down for a sail today... and seeing the smiles, laughter and freedom out on the water never gets old. A massive thank you to every volunteer, from the welcome gazebo, to the dock, to the support boats and skippers out on the water. Every conversation, every helping hand and every act of kindness matters more than you probably realise. Community is built in moments… in showing up, in making people feel seen, included and valued. That’s where real change begins. The joy we witness each week is palpable and profoundly moving, and a very special thank you to Leanne for taking time out of your day to spend it with us... and for bringing beautiful Skipper along, always ready with his gentle heart, calm presence and perfectly timed cuddles🐾
This is what community looks like. Different people. Different stories. One shared horizon⛵
