After months of planning, long nights, tears, determination and unwavering passion — Golalbi-gan and Goodjoo are incredibly proud to announce the official launch of Youth Housing With a Purpose.

This isn’t just a milestone for Golalbi-gan Pty Ltd — it’s a historic moment for our Townsville community. It's a storyline that will forever be etched in my families storybook.

As the first private, locally owned and operated, grassroots Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander residential care service in Townsville, we are not only breaking barriers — we’re creating a new pathway for what culturally safe, community-led care can look like in a new space.

Youth Housing With a Purpose is more than a program — it’s a statement.
A statement that First Nations-led solutions work.
A statement that our young people deserve housing, healing, and hope — grounded in culture, connection and community. All while being led by local grassroots mob for mob.

I want to extend my deepest thanks and heartfelt gratitude to every single person who has supported Golalbi-gan since day one. Whether you’ve walked beside us, backed us quietly, or simply believed in the vision — this is your win too.

We are only scraping the surface of what’s possible. There is so much more to come, and we can’t wait to share this next chapter with you all.

This is the beginning. Only just over 12 months in and as our vision and purpose says, we aim to nurture and strengthen the bond and connection First Nations people have with their family, culture and community and empower First Nations people to shape their own narratives. This is where it starts.

Let’s keep building. Let’s keep rising. Let’s keep walking with purpose.

Joys of being a small business owner 🌱

Other than general business the rest is up to you to figure out 👣✨🤎

This is the backyard of our new office space recently began leasing. It was full of bushes, shrubs, trees and weeds.

Today we’re clearing it to eventually make a shared garden where we can have bbqs and a kup murri pit to teach young people life skills, cultural practices and build stronger partnerships with our local business partners.

I’m excited, humbled and pleased to announced that I’ve been selected to be apart of the QATSICPP Youth Justice Sector Strategic Advisory Group (YJ SSAG).

The purpose of this group is to unite strategic leaders and experts from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Community-Controlled and Non-Government Sectors to help shape safer communities for Queensland.

Leadership from YJ SSAG will assist in creating positive outcomes for children, young people, and families.

The YJ SSAG will play a pivotal role in guiding the Peak in the following key areas:

Connected Community Service Sector: The group will help guide the establishment of rigorous consultation processes that ensure a well-connected community service sector. Participation will help create a network that effectively engages with and responds to communities’ needs.

Evidence-Informed Policy and Strategy Advice:
The group will help to inform evidence-based policy and strategic advice. By working together, we can develop and advocate for effective policies and reform that reflect the realities faced by our communities and meet their needs.

Strong Workforce with Enhanced Skills: The group will be committed to building a strong workforce that embeds culturally safe practices and processes. Our insights and experience will be crucial in enhancing workforce’s skills and ensuring cultural safety is at the forefront of everything we do.

Access to Data to Track Trends and Address Concerns: The group will focus on ensuring access to relevant data and information to track trends, identify emerging issues, address concerns immediately, and informs adequate and appropriate resourcing.

Evidence-Based Approaches Across the Youth Justice Continuum: The YJ SSAG seeks to ensure program designs focus on holistic interventions to address underlying causes that contribute to offending behaviour and employ evidence-based approaches across the entire youth justice continuum. The group’s contributions will help QATSICPP refine and implement strategies that have a real and lasting impact.

The level of gratitude in my spirit this week has weighed heavy on me in the most positive way.
Those closest to me, including my team know I’ve had my struggles and stressors lately but as a team we’ve had many more gratifying moments.

From wins within our team, wins for the young people we support and wins personally and wins as a business - it’s all been weighing on my spirit and heart heavily because I know something greater is happening here.

Im super thankful for my team who today suprised me with these flowers and lunch to thank me for everything I do in the background of this small business.

These moments and gestures make everything worth it because it reassures me I’m on the right tracks personally, as a team, as a business, in this community and on this journey called life.

As I look around, I see and feel the support we receive and more importantly the impact we are making in this community and more importantly in the lives of the young people we support each and every day.

So this is a heart felt thank you to my team and to everyone who shows up for us in some way or form ❤️

Saturday On Country Walk 👣

Thank you (Buddy and Reece Cassady) and Aunty Viv for welcoming us on your country and sharing your knowledge with myself, my team and our young people today while out on your country.

This may be the only time some of our young people learn about culture, see what cultural practice is and what it feels like internally.

To have the community actively involved and willing to support our young people means so much to us even more so when community is willing to share their culture to our next generation.
