HOPE Birthing

HOPE Birthing H.O.P.E~Helping Optimise Pregnancy Empowerment. The Home Of OMP in North QLD Australia.

Welcome, I'm Shona a Midwife since 2006, I serve the beautiful area of North QLD in Australia and I am the first Optimal Maternal Positioning (OMP) Certified Educator in my region. I achieved my Midwifery Degree because I found true passion in supporting couples through this incredible and life changing journey. My aim is as my business name state's, to guide couples to HOPE to Help you to Optimise Pregnancy Empowerment through education, encouragement, and guidance. I have worked in the birth world industry within the Public, Private and Community settings. In England and Australia and I have experience in everything from Low risk Home Births to High Risk Pregnancy Care and Birth. My extensive experiences have given me a unique perspective into the different types of care providers for pregnancy care. From these experiences I truly believe I can help navigate you and your birth partner on your birth journey to parenthood. My heart wants to see you cross over into new empowerment and knowledge through your pregnancy, birth and postpartum. This comes I believe through faith and connection and the right information. I truly believe in the design and biology of birth and want to come alongside you on your journey. I HOPE you find some inspiration on my page and book an OMP Workshop or a more private one to one session with myself. If not that's alright I wish you all the very best for your new adventure into parenthood.

The Trump administration has made highly controversial claims about the causes of autism and ADHD, asserting that paracetamol (also known as acetaminophen) use during pregnancy increases the risk of children being diagnosed as neurodivergent.

RANZCOG joins leading clinicians and scientists worldwide in rejecting these claims. Scientific evidence shows no link between paracetamol use in pregnancy and autism or ADHD during childhood, with several large and reliable studies directly contradicting the administration’s statement.

The causes of neurodivergence are incompletely understood and remain complex, involving both genetic and environmental factors. Earlier studies raising concerns about paracetamol could not determine whether the medicine itself was responsible, or whether other factors explained the association.

A much larger and stronger study, published in 2024 by Ahlqvist and colleagues, looked at 2.5 million children in Sweden. When they accounted for important factors like family history of autism/ADHD and sibling comparisons, they found no link between paracetamol use during pregnancy and children developing autism or ADHD.

The use of medications during pregnancy should always balance the potential benefits against any potential harms - both of the medication and of the condition being treated - to the mother and the fetus. The Ahlqvist study provides conclusive evidence that paracetamol use during pregnancy does not increase the chance of neurodivergence in the offspring and therefore should be considered safe to use in pregnancy where there is a clear reason to do so.

People who are uncertain about medication use in pregnancy should discuss this with their doctor or midwife.

Absolutely
Your body,
Your baby,
Your Decision………

If you haven’t checked out Sarah Wickham books 📚 then I can not recommend any of them highly enough to assist in your pregnancy journey.

I've written 18 books now.

Several of them are designed to help women and families to understand the evidence so they can make the decisions that are right for them.

And I sometimes think that this might be the most important sentence I've ever written.

Your birth decisions and experiences are nobody's business but yours.

You have the right to make the decisions that are right for you and your baby.

No matter whether that's to do with where you give birth, who you have with you or what you want going on around that.

We need to ensure that ALL birth decisions are respected.

No-one should be hassled, groomed, shamed, coerced or bullied about pregnancy and birth decisions.

Before, during OR afterwards.

This quote comes from my book, "What's Right For Me? Making decisions in pregnancy and childbirth."

That and my other books have helped tens of thousands of women and families for more than 20 years.

If you need information on induction of labour, plus size pregnancy, Anti-D (RhoGAM), group B strep, vitamin K, placental birth, or any other birth decision, I have a website full of information at www.sarawickham.com

I also have books on each of these topics, which are written to help you make the decisions that are right for you.

Your body. Your baby. Your decisions.

It's the simple 💜💜

Happy Australia Day to everyone whom is blessed to call this land home. I know I am privileged to live in this wonderful multicultural part of the world.

I’m wondering how many beautiful bubs will be born today? Whatever you are doing I hope it’s with friends & family & you are surrounded by love & positivity for each other & the country in which we live.

This Bill, which passed the Senate tonight, formally amends the Act from 2010 and is the final legislative step in the journey to an expanded Professional Indemnity Scheme for midwives allowing cover for birth at home.

ACM congratulates the Albanese Government on committing to this long sought solution for all endorsed midwives and eligible Birthing on Country entities who work in the homebirth space and women in Australia who choose to birth at home.

It is a win for women’s choice of healthcare. 💜
