When you finally truly understand the expression “walk it off.”

Because no… my problems didn’t magically disappear.
The hard conversations still exist.
The stress still exists.
Life still exists.

But something shifts when you move your body instead of just sitting inside the stress.

Step by step, it’s like your nervous system starts unclenching.
Your thoughts stop shouting quite so loud.
Your body remembers it’s allowed to breathe again.

And somewhere along the way…
you stop carrying the weight the same.

I don’t think walks solve everything.
But I do think sometimes we were never meant to hold this much tension without moving through it.

People say to me sometimes,

“I honestly don’t know how you do it all.”

And honestly…
I don’t really know either.

Some days genuinely feel like organised chaos.

Being a mum and running a business at the same time means your brain rarely switches off completely.

You can be replying to emails while mentally remembering library day.
Thinking about dinner while finishing work tasks.
Trying to be present with your kids while also carrying the responsibility of people depending on you professionally.

And then somewhere in the middle of all that…
you’re also trying to look after yourself too.

I think a lot of parents in business know the feeling of constantly shifting between roles all day long.

Parent.
Business owner.
Partner.
Support person.
Problem solver.
Human being trying to hold it all together.

Some days flow beautifully.
Some days feel messy.
Most days are a mixture of both.

But I think there’s something really human about admitting that life can feel full sometimes while still deeply loving the life you’ve built.

You’re waiting to feel better to start living…
but feeling better usually comes after you start.

This is where a skill from Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) comes in called opposite action.

It’s simple, but powerful.
When your emotion is telling you to avoid, withdraw, or shut down…
you gently choose to do the opposite of what it’s urging.

Not in a forceful, fake way—
but in a “I’m not letting this emotion run the whole show” kind of way.

So if your mind says:
“Don’t go, you’ll feel awkward” → you show up anyway.
“Stay in bed, it’s too much” → you get up and step outside.
“Don’t reply, it’s easier to avoid it” → you send the message.

Because emotions aren’t always accurate…
but your actions can help shift them.

Start small.
Pick one moment today where you notice the urge to pull back…
and gently lean forward instead.

Let action lead.
Let the feelings catch up.

That’s how you get your life moving again.

Deep Speak will be closed for the Public Holiday on May 4th, giving our team a well-earned day to pause and recharge.
