Huge congratulations to Carl and Jack Valentine for their fantastic efforts at the Queensland Rowing Championships over the weekend at Wyaralong Dam.

Representing their local club, Riverway Rowing Club, the boys put in an impressive performance on the water. Jack placed an outstanding 5th in Queensland in the double, racing alongside his mate Brian Hayes, narrowly edging out Carl and Owen Beaney coming in 6th. Brian, Jack, Owen and Carl also competed in the quad coming in 4th.

Great experience in a highly competitive racing environment and a true reflection of the hard work, commitment, and dedication you both put in. Well done, Carl and Jack, we’re so proud of you!

The latest PVW Partners Business Confidence Survey shows a slight dip in confidence heading into 2026 (from 9.2 → 8.1), mostly due to seasonal slowdowns. But there’s plenty to be optimistic about.

Many businesses are planning new investments, boosting advertising, and positioning for future opportunities. Confidence in the region remains strong, with over 94% backing Mayor Nick Dametto to positively shape Townsville’s future. Top business priorities? Cutting red tape, tackling crime, improving transparency, and supporting local entrepreneurs.

Townsville’s businesses are realistic about short-term challenges but remain forward-looking and ready to invest.

The December edition of the Cairns Economic Monitor has landed, and it arrives with a dose of reality for anyone hoping for a festive rate cut.

October inflation came in at 3.8%, abruptly cooling those Christmas wishes. The RBA has been clear: it wants unmistakable proof that inflation is easing, and the latest numbers aren’t doing it any favours.

While the monthly CPI series has been around since 2022, it is now a key driver of interest rate expectations, giving us faster insight into economic momentum. That makes 10 December a pivotal date, with the next CPI release dropping just days before the 17 December RBA meeting. A softer reading would certainly boost confidence, but at this stage, a rate cut before year-end would feel like nothing short of a Christmas miracle.
