Let's talk lotus birth. I understand that it may not appeal to all new mums to keep the placenta and cord attached to baby until it falls off, can take several days. However, there's no medical reason to cut the cord immediately. All babies blood returns to the placenta in order to make baby easier to push out. Now think about it. If you cut cord, placenta is engorged and going to mean mum has to push out almost a second baby. Meanwhile the baby has to not only breathe and get digestive system up and running but also replenish blood. On the other hand, if you let the blood return to baby, wait for cord to stop pulsing, it not only helps baby start life with all that good blood, but it helps mum slip out the placenta. If you then want to cut, go ahead. If you want to keep it attached, see next post about preparing placenta.
Here we are burying one that the husband didn't want left attached, but was only cut next day. Roped a friend in to help dig. Needs to be deep so animals don't dig it up. .
