As another year draws to a close, we all at Achieving Change would like to hope everyone has a safe and happy journey into the upcoming year.
We remember that this not necessarily a celebratory time for everyone.
What ever you do and however you celebrate over the next few weeks we wish you positive energy.
Our office is now closed and will reopen on 7 January.
If anyone requires support during this time please access lifeline or relevant services.
From our families to yours have a safe and happy Christmas and new year!

On this day we will remember the ones from the past, the present and future. The sacrifices made and the wounds carried by many.
Wounds carried not just by the ones who are 'in' the armed forces but by those who love and care for them.

There are many reasons I enjoy my job. I get to meet the most amazing people, who allow me the privilege and honour of being part of their story.
This is something I do not take lightly and feel extremely privileged to have that opportunity.
This is made even more amazing when someone finds out you have not been well, so goes out of their way to give you an early Christmas present to help you feel better.

This was greatly appreciated by myself.

I am truly blessed to work with some of the amazing people.

Many times I get asked am I a psychologist?
I have post graduate psychology though I am a social worker who is accredited Mental health.
I then get asked what then is the difference between psychologist and a social worker.

The following describes it rather well. I did take this from another page.

The biggest differences between the two aren't in therapy, it's more the focus in their early training - psychologists (generally) have more training in research and statistics, whereas social workers (generally) have more training in how people and systems interact - but BOTH psychologists and Accredited Mental Health Social Workers get training and experience in therapy and BOTH of us engage in evidence-based practice and we all learn about all of those things. Accredited Mental Health Social Workers complete additional training and sit an exam to be registered, they are able to provide services under the Medicare Better Access scheme. They have additional training in using focus psychological strategies like CBT, ACT & EMDR

All clinicians at Achieving Change Counselling are registered with the relevant registration body for their profession, which requires they undertake ongoing professional development and access regular clinical supervision (meeting with a clinician who has additional qualifications in supporting, mentoring, and overseeing their practice).

After their initial training, both will pursue certain specialisations, and the clinicians at Achieving Change Counselling undertaken and continue to engage in ongoing training/development in therapy.

In a world were we can be anything we need to remember to be ourselves!
We need to understand that we are all the same in what we are but we are all different in who we are.
Lets celebrate the who we are and add colour, texture and story to the world!

There is a real reason to the saying 'flip your lid' it is related to our rational brain and our emotional brain. In times of stress and other reasons our rational brain can not engage how we want, 'flipping off tap' and we are working with only our emotional brain, that can mean we may not make the best decisions/choices.

As a registered NDIS business and a social worker I have had many conversations around what we can do under the NDIS. The resource just released by our association outlines this more clearly. If you want further information please make contact with myself or the AASW.
