Today we join Social Workers worldwide in celebrating World Social Work Day under the theme “Co-building Hope & Harmony: A Harambee Call to Unite a Divided Society”.
This year, we focus on unity, mutual support, and sharing responsibility to address conflict, inequality, and ecological challenges, inspired by the African philosophy of Harambee (pulling together).
Let’s take this opportunity to reflect, recognise and celebrate the vital contributions of social work in shaping stronger, more resilient communities around the world.
Hope you all have a wonderful day!
From the Mental Health Team at Alliance Clinics; Kate & Jose!

Last Friday, some of our team had the privilege of attending the 2026 Keys & Co. Property International Women’s Day Luncheon.
We were proud to host a table with SpeachEase and invite women from a range of industries across Townsville to join us for an afternoon focused on connection, collaboration and shared success within our local business community.
The event was made even more special by keynote speaker Anna Meares, whose insights on resilience, adaptability and personal development left a lasting impact on everyone in the room. Her message was both inspiring and highly relevant to the work we do in healthcare and leadership.
Events like these are a powerful reminder of the value of supporting one another, building strong networks and working together to create better outcomes for our community.
Thank you to Keys & Co. Property for hosting such a meaningful celebration of International Women’s Day and to the representatives from NDIS coordination and advocacy, education and healthcare providers who came together and attended.

Falls Risk Screening Series 4: Vision and Sensory Loss
Vision and sensory changes can significantly increase the risk of falls. When vision or sensation is reduced, it becomes harder for the body to respond quickly and maintain stability.
Regular screening and early support from one of our physiotherapists can help identify these changes and implement strategies to reduce fall risk and support safer mobility.

Alliance Rehabilitation was formed as a collaboration between experienced health professionals to deliver innovative, quality, effective, efficient, and safe goal orientated rehabilitation programs to North Queensland. With a vision to be a truly interdisciplinary service of the highest standard that could make a difference and achieve positive outcomes for those with the greatest and most complex needs. To achieve this, Alliance Rehabilitation has one of the largest interdisciplinary health teams in the region, including Physiotherapists, Occupational Therapists, Speech Pathologists, Exercise Physiologists, Social Workers, Psychologists and Neuropsychologist, Accredited Practising Dietitians & Nutritionists, Nurses and Doctors.
With the rollout of the NDIS many participants who journeyed with Alliance Rehabilitation from acute care back into the community asked if they could continue with Alliance Rehabilitation under the NDIS. This made a great deal of sense to the Directors as continuity of care and building a successful relationship with participants has always been a vital component of a successful service and achieving best outcomes; so over the past year Alliance Rehabilitation has invested in developing an NDIS service that meets the same exacting quality standards and innovative approach to practice as all other Alliance Rehabilitation programs and has begun to serve the wider community as an NDIS provider.
Innovation is a word often mentioned at Alliance Rehabilitation as the service was the first in Australia to operate a full Tyromotion Robotic and Computer Assisted Therapy suite and still the only of its kind in Queensland; the suite is a state of the art approach to upper limb therapy, maintenance and cognitive rehabilitation which makes therapy fun, effective and encourages greater outcomes. Alliance Rehabilitation is also the only service in Townsville to maintain a professional driving simulator to assist participants in their goal to return to driving as quickly and safely as possible under the guidance of Alliance Rehabilitation’s Occupational Therapy Driving Assessors.
Alliance Rehabilitation is responsive to local community needs; an example of which is the service’s new short-term specialist disability and health accommodation facility under development in Townsville, due for completion this year. The facility will assist participants return to the community, have respite or transition to their own long-term accommodation. Services in the facility will be tailored to suit individual needs, under the principals of choice and control, along with the ability for carers and family to stay with participants in the modern, state of the art, LHA Platinum level dwellings.
While based in Townsville, Alliance Rehabilitation has extensive outreach services in Ayr, Ingham, Charters Towers, Hughenden, Richmond, Magnetic Island and Palm Island.
