This Remembrance Day, join us in honouring those who gave their lives in service.

Monday 11 November 2024 marks the anniversary of the Armistice that ended fighting with Germany in World War I.

Every year at the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month, millions around the world pause in silence to remember the sacrifices many have made so we can enjoy life today.

FIRST AID FOR 🔥 BURNS

A burn causes the partial or complete destruction of skin. There are two layers of the skin. Once the skin is burnt, the extent of damage can be minimised by effective immediate first aid treatment.

Types of burns:
- Thermal (eg.flame, hot liquid, flash)
- Inhalation
- Scald
- Electrical (ensure power is off)
- Chemical - call PIC (Poison Info Centre on 131126 or refer to SDS (Safety Data Sheet)
- Phosphorus (eg. Flares fireworks)
-Hydrofluoric Acid (eg. Cleaning agent)
- Petroleum
- Radiation
- Friction

First aid:
1. Ensure to follow DRSABCD and care for life threatening in luding not breathing.

2. Cool with LOTS, LOTS and LOTS of room temperature tap water for at least 20mins or longer

3. If water not available, use hydrogel such as Burnaid

4. If possible remove rings, watches before swelling occur

5. DO NOT peel off clothing!
6. DO NOT bust any blisters
7. DO NOT apply any creams, oils or ointments

8. Provide elevation and cover the burn with a loose non stick dressing

Lets take a closer look at Trauma Bleeding essentials to have in your First Aid Kit.

1. Tourniquet and a pen to write the time on it.
How to apply a Tourniquet - at least 5-8cm above the injury; once applied do not remove unless medically advised and never over a joint.

2. Wound packing such as Olaes or Israeli Bandage or Packing Gauze
These items are great for large gapping wounds and the gauze is packed inside the wound nice and tight but most importantly - DIRECT PRESSURE STILL NEEDS TO APPLIED AFTER THE APPLICATION.

3. Haemostatic Dressing such as Bleed Solv or Quick Clot
These items can be expensive BUT they can control the bleeding within 3 minutes and come in various forms such as pads, long gauze or granules.

4. Shock Blanket
With trauma bleeding after you have controlled the bleeding - the casualty will go into shock very quickly which means they will feel cold - it's important to keep them warm as this helps also to stem the flow of bleeding.

The main priority in these situations is to STOP the bleed and save a life. Contact us today to place an order or to learn how to use these products effectively in an advance course today.

All of these techniques are included in the advanced courses that are available including:
