Townsville Equine Assisted Learning

Townsville Equine Assisted Learning Horses helping humans. Learn how to to better yourself and your life with the aid of horses and t This is the basis of Equine assisted learning.

Horses have the unique ability of being able to pick up on our energy levels, body language and emotional state. Horses tend to mirror our behaviour and allow us to learn far more about ourselves then we’ve ever thought possible. Based on the model of Equine Psychotherapy Institute of Australia (EPI),
our Equine sessions help clients to understand and become more aware of themselves, how their bo

dy is reacting to their thoughts, and ways of thinking that do not serve them well anymore. Through a series on basic interactions, there is a unique connection that happens between the individual and that of the totally non-judgmental horse. The results of these interactions allow us to realise areas in one’s life that will benefit from change. These changes are often small and achievable goals which have proven to have a positive impact on one’s life moving forward. We work on Self-awareness, relaxation, boundaries, communication and relationships. Our equine assisted sessions are especially helpful for individuals experiencing anxiety, depression, PTSD, and/or numerous other psychological issues, however we offer these sessions to anyone who would like to take positive steps in improving their everyday life. There is something very special about interacting with a horse. Horses possess empathy, insight and wisdom and freely give it to you… if you can stay still long enough to accept it! No previous horse experience needed. Our work is mostly conducted securely on the ground with the horses either at liberty (free) or on a halter. We conduct individual hourly sessions or group, full day sessions. For your equine experience, contact us today.

Participated in traditional Leadership courses previously but still searching for that something more...? Authentic Leadership Through Horses may well be your ah-ha moment of understanding, plus let's be honest, you also get some cool workshop partners!!

A short-day program designed for today’s women in business, allowing us to explore and develop these important skills for personal growth through guided hands-on interaction with this unique opportunity using our beautiful horses.

Todays’ Leaders require much more than just good managerial skills, they need Emotional Intelligence. To build trust and commitment they need to perceive themselves more accurately, exercise emotional self-control and show empathy, then be able to develop that same awareness of others. As a leader we spend hours each day connecting with staff, our customers and of course those we share our life with. What we so often forget, is to really stop and re-connect with ourselves.

Meet Jack and Reggie 😄 Jack attends the Townsville Equine Assisted Learning program with his school. The school partakes in a Horse Wisdom program, they attend weekly for 6 weeks.

You are thinking this is just a picture of a boy and a horse. Yes, you are right. However, there is always more to a picture....

With EAL, the horse chooses the human, if the horse does not want to participate, they don't. If the human does not want to participate, they don't.

Now Reggie, is not one to participate in EAL sessions, he generally walks by, may have a sniff, but will not stay, it's not his bag. However. Jack was his bag. Jack caught his interest, Jack he wanted to know more about, Jack he wanted to spend time with. And he did, he sniffed, he stood, he slept, he shared his space with Jack.

How did this make Jack feel.......

Do not let this day pass you by..... A truly fulfilling day that you will not regret.

Through Equine Assisted Learning practices and Natural Horsemanship techniques, participants progress through a range of guided, ground-based activities involving horses, to support new ways to:

• Control Anxiety
• Deal with the unfamiliar
• Learn self-awareness
• Build trust
• Develop confidence
• Build supports to deal with anxiety/fear/frustration
• Come into the present (the here and now) to reduce emotional intensity and distress

No riding involved or any horse experience needed. Open to any adult who would like to come and experience a very different day. All participants exclaim that they were so thankful they took the step to try something new, something for themselves in the busy world we find ourselves in.

In EAL, the horses are the teachers who model and teach us about health and life skills including awareness, living in our bodies and having authentic relationships. Through the various EAL activities, we will extend our relationship with horses, encourage the development of skills and values that promote positive emotional health, ie, impatience, fairness, commitment, emotional congruence, relaxation, good breathing, clear communication, self-care, slowing down, firmness, determination, good and consistent boundaries.

“Health begins with tuning into the small things – the joy, the sensations, the experiences – that are already here around us.” - Meg Kirby, EPI Founder and Senior Trainer

This is profound in its simplicity – there is the potential for true health in any moment, when we tune into and are truly immersed in our experience, as it is, without judgement or pressure for it to be any different.

If we could be regulated, connected and available to our environment, as it is in this moment, this is the basis of true health!

One of our Personal Awareness Day's was held on the 18th of April.

Maria ~ 63 years

I spent my day with Kevin, a horse I hadn’t met before, yet he was able to tell me so much about myself without so much as a word.

Brenda, Phillippa, and Jenny, blended professionalism, kindness, and inspiration to create a perfect day for everyone.

Good news people. Our next Personal Awareness Day will be around August (TBA). These sessions fill very quickly, if you are interested please contact Jenny to reserve a spot!

Testimonial Monday :) Cannot wait until it rhymes on Tuesday 😊

Leadership Day was held on the 16th of April at Ranchlands.

Merenia ~ 27yrs

"The day gave me so many amazing new ways to go about my job and my life. I started using them that same night and immediately noticed a difference in everyone around me and especially in myself. The day gave me much hope and joy and I couldn’t recommend it enough. My words just do not do it justice".

We have held many Personal Awareness Days at Ranchlands, but this was the first Leadership Day. All participants were thrilled with the day, gaining new tools to use both in their personal and professional lives.

Horses, unlike humans, are free from judgement. Because horses are incredibly attuned to their environment, they are able to analyze and react to our non verbal cues such as body language and emotional states.

This unique feedback gives insight into the areas within ourselves and our lives that challenge us, giving the push that is needed for personal growth.

These beautiful beings offer more than their enchanting looks and have often been incorporated in therapeutic settings since ancient Greece.

➡️ Horses respond and mirror what ever current state of emotion you are in. Because of this, horses can help people heal from a variety of psychological issues

➡️ They can help you identify the feelings you may struggle to understand

➡️ They have the ability to help heal those who have gone through a traumatic event such as abuse

➡️ Horses can help you learn how to build and maintain relationships

➡️ Because of their gentle nature, horses are able to help people open up and build trust with those around them.

Our animals can provide so much insight into our lives. Not only can they teach us or remind us, but they can also help show us the way when we’re feeling stuck or blocked.

We often get so used to hearing and seeing certain animals that we stop noticing their attunement to us and the environment around them.

Begin to tap into the animal guides around you by simply noticing and observing the subtleties of their behaviours and body language....and see what thoughts and feelings come up for you 🍃

This is a little story that one of our clients and friends wrote after their experience at The Path of the Horse. I'll never forget that moment David Kutcher. Trust is a beautiful thing.

Dear family and friends

Thanks for getting me here.
I did equine therapy yesterday with Dean Mighell
I’ve never been near horses and I’m scared
I walked into a paddock on my own with 11 horses
I slowly walked forward to the pack
Focused on my breath
I put my head slightly down
Avoiding eye contact
Moving again slowly
I moved closer
I put my hand out
Breathing calming
The horse moved toward me
He started sniffing my hand
Then licking
I patted his head
I showed him my calm breath
He started licking me
I stroked his forehead
F**k he is huge
He nuzzled my strokes
I kept stroking
Circular motion from gentle to firm
Then I laid down very calm
Slowly all the way
To the ground
Then he laid down right next to me
OMG is this really happening?
Breathing focused, a huge special breath now show the horse My breath, my calm.
So blow me down he placed his entire head on my belly
Chest and now this 550 kg horse is laying on me
I kept calm, breathe.
Kept stroking as he lay
For 4 mins he snuggled on me until
Other horses laid down with us too
What a joy
Love to you all
