💡 Manual Handling Training – This Will Solve All Workplace Injuries, Right? …Not necessarily.

Research shows that training in lifting technique alone is not an effective control for manual task risks. It sits at the bottom of the hierarchy of controls, relying heavily on individual worker behaviour. The actual risk factors in the job—such as task design, load weight, posture, and repetition—remain unchanged, meaning the underlying hazards are still present.

That’s why we go further—
🔍 We Help You Design Safer Jobs
NQTS conducts ergonomic risk assessments, evaluating tasks and departments to identify hazards. We provide actionable solutions and promote the use of participative ergonomics (like the PErforM program)—a proven method to reduce risk by improving job design with worker input.

Manual Handling Training That Works for Your Workplace!

At NQTS, we know that every workplace is different. That’s why our Manual Handling Training Packages are tailored to your team, your tasks, and your environment.

We train your staff in their real work environment, using the tools and equipment they use every day—so the learning is relevant, practical, and instantly applicable.
✅ Training Includes:
• Theory – Learn the "why" behind safe lifting, spine anatomy, and movement principles.
• Practical – Hands-on coaching in lifting, pushing, pulling, handling, climbing, and more.
• Competency Assessment – Staff are assessed doing their actual work with correct technique.

Our NQTS team had an inspiring and insightful time at the AI in Occupational Therapy Conference in Brisbane last week! 🧠🤖

Across two packed days, we explored how artificial intelligence is reshaping occupational therapy — from smarter clinical tools to innovative ways of enhancing client outcomes and supporting everyday function.

It was a fantastic opportunity to learn, connect, and bring fresh ideas back to our practice. A big thank you to the organizers and speakers — especially the incredible Karen Jacobs👏

Working from home is becoming more and more common for many of us🏠While it offers flexibility and comfort, it can also present challenges in terms of setting up a workspace that promotes good posture and prevents long-term health issues like back pain, neck strain, and upper limb repetitive overuse injuries. Here are our top ergonomic tips for working from home:

1) Choose the correct chair – A good office chair will support your lower back and promote good posture. It should have adjustable features such as seat height, backrest tilt, and seat pan tilt/slide
2) Set desk at the correct height – The ideal desk height should allow your elbows to remain at a 90-degree angle when typing or using your mouse. If you can, choose a desk with adjustable height settings so you can alternate between sitting and standing throughout the day. These desks are more affordable than ever, see online options or visit Officeworks
3) Monitor position – The top of your monitor should be at or just below eye level. Your eyes should naturally fall on the top third of the screen when you’re sitting in a neutral position. If you are using a laptop, consider using a laptop riser or placing it on a household item to raise the screen to the correct height🖥
4) Keyboard and mouse position – Use of an external keyboard and mouse is encouraged, rather than using a laptop’s keyboard and mousepad. This will allow you to keep the keyboard and mouse close to avoid wrist and arm strain⌨️
5) Take regular breaks – Even with the correct ergonomic work from home set up, it is important to take regular breaks to avoid discomfort and strain. Take short breaks every hour to stand, stretch, walk, and move around to reset your posture🧘‍♀️
6) Do a risk assessment of your office area in your house – Avoid trip hazards such as cords across the room or walkways; avoid fire hazards like double adaptors; be aware of glare into your office and ensure you can control this with blinds or curtains; ensure you have good task lighting💡

NQTS offers individual home workstation ergonomic assessments. Get in touch with the team today if you or your workers need home ergonomics advice!

The NQTS team recently travelled to Melbourne for the EP3 Conference hosted by NOI Group🏢

Our therapists were inspired by the work of leading pain researchers and left with valuable knowledge on how to effectively explain pain processes to our clients living with chronic pain conditions.

One of the highlights was exploring the use of virtual reality in helping clients better understand and manage their pain — a powerful tool that makes abstract concepts more real and relatable

In true NQTS fashion, we found the time to balance work and play, testing out Melbourne’s best food and coffee while spending quality time as a team!🍴👭

Our NQTS team recently wrapped up a productive business planning day.
It was a valuable opportunity to come together, reflect on our goals, and ensure we’re all aligned moving forward. We discussed strategies, clarified priorities, and made key decisions to support our continued growth and success as a team🌟📈

The team ended their day with a Conscious Heart Awakening session which was a relaxing and rejuvenating experience, offering a great way to promote a sense of calm and clarity🧘‍♀️

Also, a special thank you to our friends at Chilli Jam for our lunch catering😍

We're looking forward to putting our plans into action!
