✨ Eye tests don’t have to be scary!
For little ones, an eye exam can feel a bit overwhelming — but at Kay Street Eyecare, we make sure every child feels welcome, safe and supported. 💛👓

A great first step is helping your child know what to expect. Arriving a little early gives us time to collect any details we need and gives your child the chance to explore the practice and get comfortable in the space.

During the appointment, your optometrist will chat with you about any eye behaviours you’ve noticed — things like sore eyes, headaches, squinting or eye-rubbing. They’ll also ask about your child’s health, development and any family history of eye conditions.

Your child may be asked to read letters or shapes from a distance to help determine whether glasses might be needed. But this is only one part of understanding their overall vision. Other important skills include how your child’s eyes move, focus and work together.

For struggling with school work, your optometrist may recommend a behavioural eye exam at a follow-up visit. This type of testing looks beyond clear sight to understand how their brain processes visual information. These vision skills play a key role in reading, writing, attention and learning.

Helping kids feel confident about their eye health starts with a calm, positive experience — and we’re here to make that happen! 👀💫
