☀️ Stay Safe in the Summer Heat! ☀️

With the warmer weather on the way, it’s important to stay hydrated, cool, and protected from the sun. 🌞

Heat stroke can develop quickly, so keep an eye out for the warning signs:

• Very high body temperature (40°C or higher)
• Hot, red, dry or damp skin
• Confusion or disorientation
• Seizures

• Offer cold water if the person is alert and able to drink

💧 Stay safe, stay hydrated, and remember your hat, sunscreen, and water bottle when heading outdoors!

🤍 World White Ribbon Day – November 2025 🤍

Today we stand together to support White Ribbon Australia, a global movement working to end men’s violence against women.

It’s a day to reflect, raise awareness, and take action towards building a future where all women and children are safe, respected, and supported.

We can help create a community built on respect, equality, and kindness.

☀️ Don’t Let the Sun Catch You Off Guard!

Incidental sun exposure adds up — even daily activities like walking the dog, gardening, or hanging out the washing can expose your skin to harmful UV rays. Sun exposure that doesn’t cause burning can still damage skin cells and increase your risk of skin cancer.

💡 Protect your skin every day when the UV level is 3 or above:
• Slip on sun-protective clothing.
• Slop on SPF50+ broad-spectrum, water-resistant sunscreen 20 minutes before going out and reapply every 2 hours.
• Slap on a hat (broad-brim or legionnaire style).
• Seek shade whenever possible.
• Slide on sunglasses that meet Australian Standards.

🩺 Know your skin
Check for changes in size, shape, or colour of existing spots or new spots. See your GP or dermatologist if you notice anything unusual.

Skin cancer is almost entirely preventable — make sun protection a daily habit and enjoy the outdoors safely! 🌿☀️

🌍 World Diabetes Day | 14 November 2025

This year’s theme: Diabetes at Work 💼

World Diabetes Day (WDD) is the world’s largest diabetes awareness campaign, reaching over 1 billion people in more than 160 countries. It is held every year on 14 November, the birthday of Sir Frederick Banting, who co-discovered insulin with Charles Best in 1922.

Created in 1991 by the International Diabetes Federation (IDF) and the World Health Organization, WDD became an official United Nations Day in 2006.

💙 Diabetes challenges at work
430 million people with diabetes are of working age. Many face stigma, discrimination, anxiety, and limited access to care and support in the workplace.

🏢 Unhealthy workplaces — lack of physical activity, limited healthy food choices, and little mental well-being support — can increase the risk of diabetes and other health issues.

💡 Do more for diabetes at work
Employers can create safe, supportive, and healthy work environments. Let’s “know more and do more for diabetes at work.”

🌍 World Pneumonia Day

Here are 3 things you should know:

1️⃣ Who’s at risk?
Anyone can get pneumonia, but young children, older adults, and people with chronic conditions (like lung, heart, kidney, or liver disease, diabetes, sickle cell, or weakened immune systems) are more vulnerable.

2️⃣ Why it’s serious
Pneumonia can cause fever, chills, cough, shortness of breath, chest pain, and weakness. Complications may include respiratory failure, sepsis, and even death — especially in adults 65+. Early diagnosis and treatment are crucial.

3️⃣ Prevention is key
Vaccines can protect against pneumonia and pneumococcal disease. Pneumococcal vaccination is recommended for young children, older adults, and those with certain health risks.

🍽️ Australian Food Safety Week | 8–15 November 2025
This year’s theme is “Don’t Swallow the Myth – Food Safety Myth Busting” 🛑
Did you know? Each year, 4.67 million Australians get food poisoning — leading to nearly 48,000 hospitalisations and even long-term health issues like reactive arthritis.
✅ Let’s bust some common food safety myths:
• 🧴 Myth: Hand sanitiser is better than handwashing.
Fact: Only soap, water, and thorough drying remove viruses like Norovirus.
• ⏱️ Myth: Food is safe if picked up within 5 seconds.
Fact: Bacteria don’t wait — food dropped on the floor can be contaminated instantly.
• 📅 Myth: Food must be thrown out after its best before date.
Fact: Best before = quality. Use by = safety. Know the difference!
• 🍔 Myth: Burgers can be eaten rare.
Fact: Always cook minced meat (burgers, sausages) to 75°C inside.
• 👃 Myth: You can tell if food is unsafe by smell or taste.
Fact: Harmful bacteria don’t always change smell, taste, or appearance.
• 🍞 Myth: You can just cut mould off food.
Fact: Mould can release toxins through the whole product — best to throw it out.
💡 This Food Safety Week, let’s protect ourselves and our families by knowing the facts — not the myths.

🌬️ November is Lung Cancer Awareness Month 🌬️

Lung cancer is the leading cause of cancer deaths, but early detection can save lives. While smoking is a major risk factor, many people diagnosed have never smoked — environmental factors and genetics also play a role.

💡 Know the signs: persistent cough, chest pain, shortness of breath, unexplained weight loss, or coughing up blood.

👉 If you’re at high risk, speak to your GP about screening.

Together, let’s raise awareness, support research, and stand by those affected. 💙

☀️ With the warmer weather on the way, don’t forget to protect your skin! 🌿

Applying sunscreen daily is one of the best ways to reduce your risk of sunburn, premature ageing, and skin cancer.

✅ Reapply every 2 hours, especially after swimming or sweating
✅ Don’t forget those easy-to-miss spots like ears, neck, and the tops of your feet
