I really wish more GP’s were trained in trauma and knew how to explain to someone what trapped emotions do to their body. Telling someone that their very real physical symptoms are a sign of stress with no other context or advice to manage it, while ultimately accurate, is extremely unhelpful.
It leaves you feeling like it’s all in your head. Like stress is something that we automatically should know how to manage. Like all you need to do is be stronger, work harder, spend more on self care and you’ll be fine.
But what it actually takes is addressing the pain that lurks in the darkest corners of your mind. The fear and shame and hurt that lay hidden within your body because you think it’s too painful to feel. It’s becoming aware that the world we’re born into is built on lies, it’s all smoke and mirrors designed to keep us distracted, in debt and disposable.
Stress is an easy answer but the solution is much more complex. Undoing a lifetime of “stress” takes more than a new skin care routine and a few ice baths. And until you understand that so very deeply in your bones, your body will continue to reflect the pain you try so hard to avoid…
Your body keeps the score and your mind keeps you stuck. Free yourself so you can start to heal 🖤
