It’s live! Tubbut Hall now has a publicly accessible EV Charger (7kW)

The scenic Victorian High Country is now accessible for EV owners. Drivers can take in Bonang Rd, McKillops Rd including McKillops Bridge, Little River Falls and Little River Gorge and the scenic views. Heading on towards Buchan including the popular caves. Do as a day trip or stay overnight in Goongerah, Bendoc, Buchan and/or Tubbut. A range of camping and airbnb style accommodation is available. Contact Tubbut Neighbourhood House for Tubbut accommodation.

Or eat your lunch at the Tubbut Hall while you charge, use the loo, and grab some local Neven’s honey (cash needed for the roadside stall opposite the hall).

Big thanks to Regional Development Victoria Tiny Towns Grant, Gippsland Climate Change Network and of course East Gippsland Shire Council who funded and manage the Buchan and Orbost chargers.

A note: This route does still include unsealed and narrow roads.

Ready to use!

Construction is complete on the Bonang laundry and shower addition - a huge thank you to Priestley Design & Build for bringing this one home.

A couple of minor tasks have been completed - bagging the old brick, resolving a trip hazard, and a bit of paint on the timber since these photos were taken. We are also still waiting on confirmed funds for a washer/dryer - but the plan is for a coin and card operated version - so the hall committee can cover operating costs for providing this important service.

The two showers are roomy spaces with fold down seats, a couple of hooks and warm water. As the hall is on rainwater, the showers run on timers.

The committee will prepare some signage and a donations box over coming months to help people use the facilities properly and respectfully.

Importantly, these facilities will run on the generator installed by Council during during power outages. Alongside the fridges and airconditioning in the hall - this makes the Bonang Hall a resilience centre able to service residents during emergencies. The local area faced outages of up to 9 weeks during the Black Summer Fires, with roads also closed.

Visitors can benefit from the facilities all year round - so why not plan your next camping trip to the region's incredible National Park estate, knowing you can pop out to charge up your devices and have a warm shower (and, we hope soon, wash and dry your clothes!)

Tubbut locals and visitors can soon look forward to a public Electric Vehicle (EV) charging station on McKillops Rd.

RACV are installing a Delta AC Max Smart 7kW single phase EV Charger which will be managed by the Gippsland Climate Change Network in partnership with the Tubbut Community Hall and Development Association. The electrical network only allows for slow charging at this stop - we estimate 2 hours for a full charge.

For those staying overnight contact Tubbut Neighbourhood House about local accommodation options. For others, the hall has rest facilities - and don't forget a bit of cash to grab some local honey from the Neven Honey stall across the road!

This charging station will support the growing government and services vehicle fleet, and help expand the nature-based tourism market - we think that paired with the slow charger in Buchan, this might make the McKillops Bridge scenic route the first EV accessible remote tourism drive!

This is thanks to a Tiny Towns Fund grant from Development Victoria.

Stay tuned for more updates about when the charger goes live on Chargefox.

Hoping residents and visitors in Goongerah are enjoying the completed recreation upgrades - more shade over the Hall verandah for gatherings, and a new BBQ area and Pizza oven with shade and seating.

Funding to complete the project came from Recovery Victoria Community Foundation and the Living Local Regional Fund.

Need something to feel good about this Friday?

Thanks to Priestley Design and Build, the Bonang Bathroom Block extension got underway this week!

This bushfire recovery project is part of the Resilience Centres/Wellbeing Spaces upgrade acrosss the district and the Bonang Community has waited a long time for us to break ground. Three years and counting so far....

But where there is a will there is a way. Thank you to the many funding partners who came together to make this project happen as we jumped inflation hurdles. Especially Emergency Recovery Victoria, Regional Development Victoria through the Living Local Regional fund, Gippsland Community Foundation and East Gippsland Shire Council who have been very patient and agreed to extend the funding acquittal deadlines.

The extension to the existing bathroom block will include two showers and a laundry. Construction will take a couple of months and we will provide you updates.

The facilities will support community and emergency services during outages and road closures, and provide a stopping point for visitors to the region enjoying the pristine natural environment.

Next week is your opportunity to try out a HoloLens for the first time. It will help your community plan and report against it's effective uses but it's also SUPER fun. Book in now by emailing, calling or texting me!

We think this could be useful for remote communities to access healthcare and get quotes from trades. But we are keen to hear about other ideas too!

Here is one example of how it can be useful in a health setting:

Don't forgot to book in for the Hololens Training in Goongerah!

Dates for Bendoc and Tubbut will be announced before Xmas, for early December.

You can always start here and have a refresher in the NY!

Want a peak at the kinds of things you can do remotely with HoloLens?

We also think it might be very useful to get different tradies to quote, or inspections done - could also be useful for CFA and other community volunteers wanting to demonstrate training or showcase facilities without the travel.

Come along, learn about it, and let's figure out and test what benefits it could have for Goongerah!
