🇦🇺 Australia Day Safety Reminder

As we enjoy time outdoors with family and friends this Australia Day, it’s important to look after your health and safety.

☀️ Stay safe by remembering to:
• Drink plenty of water and stay hydrated
• Protect your skin with SPF50+, hats and shade
• Avoid peak heat where possible
• Swim between the flags and supervise children around water
• Be mindful of alcohol intake, especially in the heat

If you or someone with you feels unwell — dizzy, overheated, or unwell — seek medical advice promptly.

Have a safe, enjoyable Australia Day. 💙

👁️ Glaucoma Awareness Month — January

Glaucoma is a leading cause of irreversible vision loss — and it often develops without early symptoms.

Regular eye checks are essential, especially if you:
• Are over 40
• Have a family history of glaucoma
• Have diabetes or high blood pressure
• Are of Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander background

Early detection and ongoing management can help protect your vision.

If you’re due for an eye check or have concerns about your eye health, speak with your GP about assessment and referral options.

👁️ Your eyesight matters — early checks make a difference.

🫁 Asthma & Respiratory Health This Summer

Hot weather, pollen, smoke and poor air quality can make asthma and other respiratory conditions worse — especially during summer.

To help protect your breathing health:
✔️ Make sure inhalers are current and not expired
✔️ Follow your asthma action plan
✔️ Avoid triggers where possible
✔️ Seek medical advice if symptoms worsen

If you or your child experience ongoing cough, wheeze, shortness of breath or increased inhaler use, a review may help.

At Family Doctors @ Tuggerah, we provide asthma reviews, respiratory assessments and support for managing symptoms year-round.

Breathing easier starts with good planning. 💙

🩸 Blood Donor Awareness Month — January

Every blood donation has the power to save lives.

Across Australia, donated blood is used every day for people undergoing surgery, cancer treatment, trauma care, and managing chronic illness — and demand never stops.

If you’re healthy and eligible, donating blood is a simple way to make a real difference in someone’s life.

💙 Thank you to all blood donors for your generosity and commitment to helping others.
💙 Your donation truly matters.

If you’re considering donating, visit Lifeblood to check your eligibility and book an appointment.

💗 Cervical Cancer Awareness Month — January

Cervical cancer is one of the most preventable cancers, yet many people are overdue for screening.

Regular cervical screening can detect changes early — often before symptoms appear — and save lives.

At Family Doctors @ Tuggerah, cervical screening is available with Dr Colina or Nurse Caroline, delivered with compassionate, respectful care. We offer:
• Clinician-collected cervical screening tests
• Self-collection options (where appropriate)
• Preventive women’s health support

If you’re aged 25–74 and due (or overdue) for a cervical screening test, now is a great time to book.

Early detection makes a difference. 💗
Your health matters.

☀️ Summer Heat Safety — Look After Yourself in the Heat

With warmer summer days across NSW, it’s important to take extra care of your health. Hot weather can increase the risk of dehydration, heat exhaustion and heatstroke — especially for children, older adults and those with chronic conditions.

🔥 Stay safe in the heat:

✔️ Drink water regularly, even if you don’t feel thirsty
✔️ Avoid outdoor activity during peak heat (10am–4pm)
✔️ Wear light, breathable clothing and a hat
✔️ Use SPF50+ sunscreen and reapply often
✔️ Keep babies, children and older adults cool
✔️ Never leave children or pets in parked cars

If you experience dizziness, nausea, headaches or extreme fatigue, seek medical advice promptly.

Our team at Family Doctors @ Tuggerah is here to help you stay safe and well this summer. 💙
