YES - I needed to change my mind shift - always learning"

After years in the corporate world, I thought I had seen it all.

✅ Negotiating with CEOs

✅ Managing multi-million-dollar contracts

✅ Guiding homeowners and buyers through big decisions

But nothing quite prepared me for the shift into the disability sector.

Running a business here is completely different. It’s not about contracts or boardroom debates—it’s about people, journeys, and making a genuine difference in someone’s life. And honestly… that’s where my true passion lies.

The biggest adjustments I’ve had to make:

📍 Trading the corporate “numbers-first” mindset for a “people-first” one

📍 Realising that repeating myself (sometimes 3+ times!) is part of the process… and learning patience along the way 😅

📍 Balancing being direct when needed with the care and compassion that this sector deserves

It hasn’t always been easy, but every challenge reminds me why I made the change. Because at the end of the day, impact beats profit.

Cooking Up Connections 🍳👨‍🍳

At our SIL home, it’s not just about living together — it’s about sharing skills, laughs, and a full belly!
We’ve got some seriously talented participants who love to show off in the kitchen… so we thought, why not every fortnight have one of them cook for the boys?

The results? Pure magic (and full stomachs). The boys absolutely love being served up like kings at dinner time 👑🍽️

Here’s why it’s a win all round:

👨‍🍳 Skills on show – participants share their favourite dishes with everyone.

🍲 Food brings us together – nothing beats a meal cooked with heart.

😂 Plenty of laughs – even if someone mistakes salt for sugar (it’s happened… once!).

🙌 Confidence boost – the chefs of the night shine in front of their mates.

😋 The boys’ favourite part – being served up like royalty without lifting a finger!

Community, connection, and a lot of good food — that’s what life in our SIL home is all about. ❤️

Would love to hear what others may do, to bring the participants together in SIL & Community?

Who really loves an audit? 🙋‍♂️
One week out from our big audit and even though we’re confident… why do we still get nervous?
☕ Should’ve bought shares in a coffee company – we’re keeping them in business this week!
💻 Triple-checking paperwork we already checked five times.
📂 That one form that magically disappears every time you need it.
🧠 Remembering random compliance rules at 2am.
🙃 Pulling my hair out… oh wait, my kids took care of that years ago.
Here’s to making it through audit week — caffeine in one hand, compliance binder in the other! 💪✅

When employing staff, sometimes they look great from the outside — the résumé shines, the interview goes well, and the first impressions tick all the boxes.
But as time goes on, you realise… they’re not the right fit to be a support worker.

It reminded me of this…
When we first moved to the coast in 2003, everyone recommended this Chinese restaurant. We kept saying, “We have to go one day.”
Fast forward 22 years later, we finally went.
(Leaving the name out — to be fair, I think it’s changed hands since then.)

Was the wait worth it? Nope. I felt sick 😫, the food was very ordinary, and I think I’ll give it another 22 years before I even think about going back.
On the positive — we can finally say we tried it 🙌

Just like a restaurant with a great reputation can still leave you disappointed, a support worker who looks perfect on paper can still be the wrong fit in practice.

Why the right support worker matters
• It’s more than showing up for a weekly pay cheque — it’s showing up for people.
• The right fit means genuine care, not just completing a shift.
• Building trust and consistency makes a real difference to someone’s life.
• It’s about empathy, patience, and understanding — qualities you can’t fake long-term.
• A strong match between worker and participant helps create positive, lasting outcomes.

Because in support work, it’s not about “looking” the part — it’s about being the part.

I am grateful as I feel now we have a true team that is here for the right reason 🙌💪

What makes us different when looking for that next SIL Home 🏡

At Elite Care NSW, we take a personalised and collaborative approach to finding the perfect SIL home.

We don’t just place clients in a property—we work with them to create a home that reflects their needs, preferences, and lifestyle.

We begin by meeting with the client and spending time understanding what their ideal home looks like.

From there, we actively search for suitable options and invite the client to view the property, empowering them to be part of the decision-making process.

Once the home is secured, we engage with other stakeholders to help identify a compatible housemate, fostering a comfortable and supportive living environment.

What makes us different: "A Refreshing Difference"

-We start with the client’s vision and preferences, not just available properties.

- Clients are directly involved in viewing and choosing their home.

- We focus on creating a home, not just providing accommodation.

- We collaborate with stakeholders to find the right housemate match.

- Our goal is to build a supportive, comfortable, and lasting living environment.

We would love to assist and work with any client that is looking for the next Home. 🏡

We are so lucky & grateful ❤️ ❤️
Today, while on our team WhatsApp page, I saw this message below that our Client & Compliance Coordinator, Amanda, had sent to the team. To say we were touched is an understatement. For us, it's not about the money. Today, it was crucial that we were there for one of our clients when they needed us. Their mental health, their safety and their dignity will always come first for us before money. We are so grateful to have a fantastic team that truly cares and is here to support our clients on their journey...........

"I’d like to take a moment to express some well-deserved appreciation and recognition. While not everyone may have the opportunity to witness these moments firsthand, I feel it’s important to share.

Today, I observed Lisa and Michael go above and beyond in supporting a participant who currently has no remaining funding. Michael spent a significant amount of time on the phone, offering compassionate support as the client navigated serious mental health challenges. Lisa then took the initiative to pick him up and spent part of her day not only providing emotional support but also ensuring that both he and his partner were fed and cared for.

This is just one example of the extraordinary commitment Lisa and Michael demonstrate on a daily basis. It’s a powerful reminder that Elite Care is more than just a service provider—it’s a team grounded in empathy, humanity, and genuine care.

Thank you both for embodying what it truly means to make a difference.

What a great team we have, not only management but the amazing support workers as well ❤️ "

"What’s it like working with your partner?"

It’s a question Lisa and I get asked all the time — and honestly, it’s one of the most rewarding parts of our journey, sharing this with your partner.

This is our second time working together; the first was when I had my own real estate business. Listen to how that ended up 😊

Here’s why:
✅ We share the same values and vision
✅ We both come from lived experience supporting families with disability
✅ Our purpose is personal and meaningful— this isn’t just business for us, it’s our life’s mission
✅ We are both caring, empathic and want to see everyone being equal
✅ It's not about their disability, it's about their abilities, we encourage and help them release that anything is possible, "if you believe, cause we do"
✅ We balance each other’s strengths

I focus on growth and operations. Lisa has a strong reputation in this sector and has extensive experience. As we mentioned, I work within the business, and she works outside of it. We work in our lanes, utilising our strengths and knowledge.

Why we started Elite Care NSW:
💙 Lisa’s brother Jason is non-verbal and autistic — we’ve seen firsthand the importance of patient, understanding care
💙 I had seen the care my sister gave my niece Grace, who lived with cerebral palsy for 53 years. I know she was always present, but at times she needed help as well.
💙 We know the highs and lows families face, and we wanted to build a team that genuinely cares and wants to play a part in others' lives, assisting them on their journey

Working together is not always easy; we sometimes have our differences, but when you’re building something that genuinely matters, side by side with someone who shares your heart, it’s more than worth it.

And yes, we still do ask each other "how the day was" as we are focused on our lanes and discuss it at the end of the day.

I would love to hear what others' thoughts are when it comes to working with your partner.

Look like a team! Dress like a team! Play like a team!

Outside of work my other passion is the real football ⚽.

Its a sport I started playing when I was 6
(god that was a long time ago now 😌) and have had success in winning many finals with the boys but losing a few as well 🙁. But it taught me about being part of a team and having a team I enjoyed playing with and looked after each other.

Unfortunately age has got the better of me 😄 and now enjoying my boy run round and playing the best position, goal keeper 🙌. Yes I was a goalie as well 🙌.

At Elite Care, we provided the training tops and polo tops for my boys under 16’s team. We are not sponsors of the club, its just what we wanted to do for the boys.

Love seeing them in their tops, and supporting them where we can. Looking like a team ⚽🙌🏆

This is the same approach we take when putting a team together to support our wonderful clients.

Grateful to have mates that care and support each other.
We try to catch up at least 3-4 times a year and a getaway if we can.
Last night the boys caught up for our get together, and had a meal at Messa Via at Midway North Ryde (my god, yum- put it on your list). The boys interstate could not be here but hopefully will catch up with them on our next getaway.
We have been mates for nearly 40 years. We have many memories together, good and bad.
I am thankful for these boys (brothers) in my life.
Until next time boys…

"Are you wanting to be a Support Worker who makes a difference?"

If the answer is Yes...

1. Find out what we look for when looking for new support workers

2. We do engage with a training company to provide up-to-date training for our support workers and staff.

3. Have a fantastic team, face of Elite Care

4. Mentorship, our director Lisa, and others in our team have been in this sector for over 20 years. Why wouldn't you be a sponge?

Support work is not for everybody, even though some TikTokers 😊 sometimes make it look all rosy. It can be tough and emotional. You have your good days, you have your bad days, but one thing our team know is that we are always here for them.

As I say, if you don't love what you do, go and find a job that you do. We are grateful that we have a team that love what they do, even though sometimes it can be tough, emotional and draining.
