The Disability Standards for Education are the national rules that all education providers need to follow to make sure every student has equal access to education.

Right now, the Australian Government is reviewing the rules, and they want your input!

✅ Are the Standards being used well?
✅ How can decision-making and complaints be more inclusive?

PRECI are thrilled to announce the release of the official National Best Practice Framework for Early Childhood Intervention, approved for publication by the Commonwealth Government.
The PRECI Project Team (Denise, Kerry, Susana, Anoo, Tim) have worked extremely hard to not only incorporate current evidence, but also the input from practitioners and researchers from a diversity of disciplines.
We have enjoyed working in collaboration with the other members of the Consortium over the last 18 months. Thank you to everyone who shared their expertise through the consultations. The Framework is better for all your input!

🚨 Big NDIS changes announced today
The Government has confirmed that from mid-2026, people with disability over 16 will have their NDIS support needs assessed using the I-CAN tool.
This is one of the biggest shifts since the Scheme began. Instead of line-by-line planning, funding will be based on a new support needs assessment. The Government says this will cut down on reports and bring more fairness.
But we know the disability community has real concerns:
⚠️ How will strangers who don’t know us assess our needs?
⚠️ Will I-CAN become just another cost-cutting tool?
⚠️ How will budgets be decided - and can we challenge them?
For this to work, assessments must be transparent, independent, trauma-informed and built with our community. They must capture the whole person - not just numbers in a system. And every participant must have access to their full report.
This is too important to get wrong. The voices of people with disability must be at the centre every step of the way.
We’ll be watching closely and fighting to make sure our choice and control is protected.

Professor Andrew Whitehouse - Deputy Director Research, Angela Wright Bennett Professor of Autism Research and Director of CliniKids at The Kids - featured on ABC 7.30 last night, strongly countering the claims made by the US President linking paracetamol use during pregnancy to autism.

Professor Whitehouse said the statements caused unnecessary concern from the community, revealing he had already received calls from upset parents.
