Sometimes, a meal plan can feel like a lifeline, something to hold onto when food feels overwhelming.

And that’s okay. It can help bring structure and stability while you’re building trust with your body again.

But remember: a meal plan is only one step. It’s not forever.

Just like a cast comes off once your arm is healed, the goal is to gradually move beyond the plan, toward eating with freedom, flexibility, and self-trust.

You are capable of nourishing yourself with confidence. The plan is simply there to support you along the way.

🎓📈 Malnutrition doesn’t just impact health — it can hold people back at school and at work.

In education, poor nutrition can mean shorter attention spans, more sick days, lower academic performance, and difficulty with memory or problem-solving.

In employment, it can show up as reduced concentration, lower productivity, more sick leave, and barriers to skill development or job retention.

That’s why dietitians are vital in both prevention and treatment of malnutrition.

By supporting nutrition, we boost energy, concentration, and functional capacity, giving people the foundation they need to succeed in learning, training, and work.

Nutrition isn’t just about food… it’s about opportunity

Eating disorders are complex and this BIEDAW, we’re helping to unpack the why.

Eating disorders don’t look one way and they don’t come from one cause. Genetics, trauma, personality traits, neurodiversity, cultural pressures, and more can all play a role.

This BIEDAW we’re helping to unpack the why and challenge the stereotypes that can make people feel unseen or misunderstood.

At Myrtle Oak Clinic, we know that many individuals feel invisible behind the common narratives about eating disorders.

That’s why our practice brings together credentialed dietitians and psychologists who take a curious, collaborative approach, creating space for each person to share their story, feel safe, and be supported in ways that reflect their individual experience.

When we show the full picture, we send a clear message:

We see you. We’re here to support you.

This week is Body Image and Eating Disorder Awareness Week (BIEDAW), and we’re proud to stand with our national organisations to raise awareness and compassion.

This year’s theme is “Unpacking the Why: What causes eating disorders”, a powerful reminder that eating disorders are not a choice, and they’re not caused by one thing.

🔍 Did you know?

1 in 10 Australians will experience an eating disorder in their lifetime

Over 1.1 million people are impacted by eating disorders each year

The number of people affected has increased by 21% since 2012

Yet, less than 1 in 3 reach out for help

At Myrtle Oak Clinic, we approach care with curiosity, not judgement. Our team of dietitians and psychologists work together to explore each client’s unique story, because when we understand the “why,” we can support recovery in ways that truly matter.

Let’s break the stigma. Let’s unpack the why.

We’re proud to congratulate George on achieving her qualification as a Registered Clinical Psychologist, officially recognised by the Psychology Board of AHPRA.

This means clients with a valid Medicare referral can now access clinical psychology rebates when seeing George, making care more affordable and accessible.

Please join us in celebrating this incredible milestone in George’s career – we’re so lucky to have her on our team supporting clients on their journey to recovery and wellbeing.

ARFID is a newly recognised eating disorder, which became an official diagnosis for adults and children in 2013. For 12-year-old Alex*, the diagnosis came as a relief after years bouncing around the medical system.
