Rainy days just make sense for slowing down and picking up a book ☁️📚

There’s something about creating a little reading nook at home (this is honestly my fav spot!). It’s cosy, calm and no pressure - making it that bit easier for kids to sit and connect.
Reading together isn’t just about the book, it’s also one of the simplest ways to support your child’s language development in everyday moments. You don’t need it to be perfect or long🤍

What is a good educational resource I can use at home to support my child’s development?

This is a question I get asked all the time by parents!
Two resources I always recommend are these Busy Books by .speechie

The ‘Let’s Talk Together’ and ‘Talk With Me’ Busy Books are fantastic for building preschool language concepts in children aged 2–4 years. Each book includes fun, interactive activities with instructions and tips to help parents confidently support language at home.

We also love using these in therapy and recommending them to families.

Wrapping up the working week and somehow February already 🤯 Heading into the weekend (despite the miserable weather) feeling like I’ve found a good rhythm and clarity on the goals I’m carrying into March. Is anyone else slightly mind blown that we’re here already?

A big shift in my early career was realising that Professional Development doesn’t just ‘happen’ each year.

The best speechies I know are intentional about it.

They think ahead, they identify gaps, they plan realistically and they share what they learn.

At Speak About, we have a structured system for our PD planning both annually and quarterly with check ins each week.

Celebrating 10 years in this industry 🤍

Fun fact, I actually wanted to be an Equine Vet & worked in that industry for a long time 🐎 Somewhere along the way, that door closed… and I sort of fell into speech pathology instead.

And I’m so, so glad I did.

This career has allowed me to support hundreds of children & families to reach goals they once weren’t sure were possible, but it’s also transformed me. It’s stretched me, grown me, built resilience and leadership in me that I never knew I had.
What started as “I think this could be a good job” has become purpose.

Now I get to not only do the work I love, but also inspire the next generation of speechies to find that same joy, meaning and growth in what they do every day.

Turns out, the path you fall into can end up being the one that changes your life ✨

Now that we’re well and truly into 2026, we’re putting our Kick Off theme, Creating Gold, into action.

We start with our ore 🪨 The skills, experience and strengths we bring right now.

The refining comes through stepping out of our comfort zone & embracing the challenges and new learnings - it’s the 🔥 It won’t always be easy, but it’s shaping something amazing.

The gold is the beautiful & valuable result 🏆Stronger and better than before. The process is worth it!

Annual Kick Off Day for 2026, done ✨
The theme for this year is Creating Gold. A season of intentional growth, refining our skills, embracing challenges and creating something truly special as a team!

We use this time to set our vision for the year, map our goals, hear stories from our peers, connect across clinics, laugh and enjoy some yummy food in between (ButterBoy Cookies really hit the spot 🍪)

Such a good way to start the year with this crew, so excited for the year ahead 🤍

Christmas holidays have always been my favourite - the togetherness, generosity, celebrations, yummy food and all the little moments.

I’ve never loved the idea that that feeling only gets a few weeks a year, so for a long time now I’ve tried to carry it into everyday life through “little Christmases”.

Sometimes it’s simple; a coffee at the café, a swim in the ocean after work, a sneaky sweet treat. Other times it’s a note for a team member or a shared lunch surprise.

Nothing over the top. Just small things that bring the same feeling into the day - because work, life and joy don’t have to be separate 🥂

Some of the most impactful learning I’ve done as a speechie hasn’t been clinical at all.
It’s been focusing on personal skills around things like perspective, purpose, habits, values, organisation (the list goes on!) and how to actually build a fulfilling career.

These are the kinds of books that help you think more clearly, work with intention, lead yourself or others better, and show up as a more grounded human - not just a better clinician.

If you’re looking for ideas for your 2026 reading list, this is a good place to start 📖🤓
