An Early Bedtime = A Healthier Gut (and Brain!) for Your Child
A recent study shows that kids who go to bed before 9:30 PM have healthier gut microbiomes than those with later bedtimes! But why does this matter? Because the gut and brain are closely connected. The gut is sometimes called our "second brain," and healthy gut bacteria play a crucial role in not only digestion but also in regulating brain function, mood, and behaviour.
This relationship works both ways: poor sleep can affect gut health, while an unhealthy gut can interfere with sleep. In fact, studies show changes in gut microbes can impact how well we sleep, and poor sleep can alter the composition of our gut bacteria.
Want to improve your child's sleep and gut health? I've got plenty of practical tips to help you establish a healthy bedtime routine and improve their overall well-being. In my blog https://www.drleilamasson.com/blog/sleepingtipsforkids you can find practical tips on how to create a sleeps sanctuary and help your children go to bed happily and fall asleep quickly; I also have a recorded webinar on sleep, where I'll dive deeper into how you can help your child sleep better and boost their health!
Let’s nurture both their brains and their guts—starting with a good night’s sleep!
