Wednesday 4th February is Primary Healthcare Nurses Day.
It celebrates the vital work of nurses who care for people outside hospital settings, including general practice, aged care, community health, schools, custodial care and other primary health care settings.
Primary health care is often the first point of contact in our health system, supporting prevention, early intervention and ongoing care. This day shines a spotlight on the 104,000+ primary health care nurses across Australia whose work improves the health and wellbeing of communities nationwide.
We are grateful to our team of nurses that assist in providing care & support to our patients. Feel free to drop in & say thanks to our amazing team of nurses.

Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month takes place throughout the month of February. It is an important advocacy and awareness month shining a spotlight on ovarian cancer and broadening the community’s knowledge of this poorly understood disease.

Key facts about ovarian cancer
- Symptoms for ovarian cancer can be vague and/or attributed to other health conditions, such as menopause or IBS. Common symptoms include unusual bloating, fatigue, lower back pain, irregular menstrual bleeding or changes in bowel or bladder patterns.
- Ovarian cancer is the most lethal gynaecological cancer and the most lethal reproductive cancer (including male cancers), due to a five-year survival rate that has barely improved in decades, languishing at under 50 per cent.
- Most diagnoses – above 70 per cent – are made in the advanced stages when the cancer has already spread and the chance of surviving five years plummets to 29 per cent.
- The disease is chronically underfunded – the federal government commits less than 1 per cent of all medical research funding to ovarian cancer research.
- Five new cases of ovarian cancer are diagnosed daily in Australia – close to 2000 per year. If nothing changes, ovarian cancer incidence is set to rise by 66% in our region over the next 25 years.

NSW Health's post
________________________________________
NSW Health
With the arrival of summer, NSW Health is urging people to protect themselves from mosquito bites after earlier than expected detections of two mosquito borne viruses that can cause brain swelling.
The first detection of Japanese Encephalitis virus in mosquitoes for the 2025-2026 season was detected in December in the Horsham Rural City Council region in Victoria.
Another mosquito borne virus, Kunjin virus, has also been detected in Western NSW at Cowra, through a sentinel chicken blood sample as part of NSW Health’s routine surveillance.
NSW Health's Director Health Protection, Dr Stephen Conaty, said these detections that have happened early in the summer season are concerning.
“We remind everyone in NSW to protect themselves against mosquito bites, which can cause diseases such as Japanese Encephalitis and Murray Valley Encephalitis, and infection with Kunjin virus, Ross River virus and Barmah Forest virus," Dr Conaty said.
There are now 60 NSW LGAs that are considered to be higher risk of Japanese Encephalitis virus. Residents and travellers to these LGAs should take particular care to avoid mosquito bites.
“There is a safe, effective and free vaccine to protect against Japanese Encephalitis (JE). This vaccine is free to anyone who lives or routinely works in these 60 LGAs west of the dividing range and in northern NSW, and for people who work in some other high-risk occupations.”
JE vaccine is available through General Practitioners, Aboriginal health services and pharmacists. People who meet the eligibility criteria should make an appointment ahead of time and let the provider know it is for the JE vaccine. These providers may require a few days’ notice so they can order the vaccine and may charge a consultation fee.
A booster dose may be recommended for some people with ongoing risk of exposure, one to two years after completing their primary course.
Other than the JE vaccine, there is no vaccination or specific treatment for Kunjin virus or other mosquito borne diseases in Australia. The best way to avoid infection is to avoid being bitten by mosquitoes, which are more active between dusk and dawn.
To prevent mosquito bites:
• apply repellent to exposed skin. Use repellents that contain DEET, picaridin, or oil of lemon eucalyptus. Check the label for reapplication times
• re-apply repellent regularly, particularly after swimming. Be sure to apply sunscreen first and then apply repellent
• wear light, loose-fitting long-sleeve shirts, long pants, socks and covered footwear
• avoid going outdoors during peak mosquito times, especially dawn and dusk
• use insecticide sprays, vapour dispensing units and mosquito coils to repel mosquitoes (mosquito coils should only be used outdoors in well-ventilated areas)
• cover windows and doors with insect screens and checking there are no gaps
• remove items that may collect water such as old tyres and empty pots from around your home to reduce the places where mosquitoes can breed
• use repellents that are safe for children. Most skin repellents are safe for use on children aged three months and older. Always check the label for instructions
• use an infant carrier draped with mosquito netting to protect infants aged less than three months, secured along the edges
• while camping, use a tent that has fly screens to prevent mosquitoes entering or sleep under a mosquito net.
Information on eligibility for a free JE vaccine is available here: https://www.health.nsw.gov.au/.../jev/pages/vaccination.aspx
Mosquito borne diseases cannot be transmitted directly between humans or from any other animal.

Why We Cannot Bulk Bill Everyone.

From 1st November 2025, the government's new bulk billing incentive rewards short, rushed consultations.

We believe your health deserves time and quality, not quick medicine.

Bulk billing does not cover the real cost of care - True
Medicare will pay more for very short (brief) visits - False
Doctors will be rushed to push patients through - True

We will remain mixed billing so we can:
Give you the time you deserve
Provide safe, thorough care
Stay sustainable for the future

Thank you for supporting quality care.

26/10/2025

While the Government is introducing expanded bulk billing incentives on November 1st, these payments still do not fully cover the cost of the comprehensive, high-quality care we provide.
To ensure the long-term sustainability of our practice and our ability to continue to serve our local community, we will maintain our current fee structure and continue to only bulk bill patients who are concession card holders or are 15 years and younger.
Please contact reception for details regarding our fees and associated Medicare rebates.

October is Breast Cancer Awareness month (BCAM).
The aim of the BCAM is to shine a light on the devastating impact breast cancer has on thousands of Australians each day.
Every year over 21,000 people in Australia (including around 200 men) will be diagnosed with breast cancer and every year over 3,300 people in Australia (including 33 men) will die from breast cancer.
Don't hesitate to see your GP if you notice any changes in your breasts or have any concerns.
