There are many different types of contraception that prevent unintended pregnancy.

Are the ones you love fully vaccinated against measles? Case numbers are increasing across Australia, and its timely to check that you and your family are fully vaccinated against measles.

Anyone born after 1965 should ensure they have received two doses of measles vaccine. This is especially important for people travelling overseas, given measles outbreaks are occurring in several regions internationally.

The Measles-mumps-rubella (MMR) vaccine is safe, effective and free in NSW for children at 12 and 18 months, and for anyone born after 1965 who has not had two doses.

People who are unsure whether they have received two doses are encouraged to get vaccinated, as additional doses are safe. MMR vaccine is available from GPs (all ages) and pharmacies (people aged over 5 years).

Welcoming our new GP to the practice! Please read on for some information about Dr Soogun.

Dr. Olusoji Afolabi Soogun is a Specialist Family Physician and Palliative Care Physician with over 25 years of clinical experience in comprehensive primary care, community health, and specialist palliative medicine. His career spans practice in Nigeria and South Africa, with extensive experience serving urban underserved communities, hospital settings, and multidisciplinary healthcare environments.

Dr. Soogun holds an MBBS from the University of Ibadan (1995) and is a Fellow of the College of Family Physicians of South Africa (FCFP). He also holds a Postgraduate Diploma and a Master of Philosophy (MPhil) in Palliative Medicine from the University of Cape Town, reflecting his advanced expertise in the care of patients with serious and life-limiting illnesses.
Professionally, he has led and delivered holistic, patient-centred care across a wide spectrum of medical conditions, including chronic disease management, acute and emergency care, preventive health, and continuity of care for individuals and families. He currently serves as a Specialist Palliative Care Physician providing leadership in symptom control, end-of-life care, psychosocial and spiritual support, and multidisciplinary team development.
He has significant experience in community-oriented primary care, having managed a busy family practice and contributed to healthcare delivery in resource-constrained settings. He is also actively involved in teaching, mentoring medical students and junior doctors, clinical governance, and service development.
His key areas of professional interest include:
- Whole-person, relationship-based family medicine
- Palliative and end-of-life care
- Chronic disease management and healthy ageing
- Rural and community health
- Integrated physical, emotional, and spiritual care
He is a member of several professional bodies, including the South African Academy of Family Practice, WONCA (World Organization of Family Doctors), and the International Association for Hospice and Palliative Care.
