Case study:

The patient presented with tingling on the lateral side of the ankle. Described as “a feeling of water running down her left lower leg to the outside of her ankle”

Upon palpation the left calf was tight and stiff. The Sural nerve runs deep down the lateral side of the leg becoming more superficial as it reaches the lower leg and lateral ankle.

Tight spots along the Sural nerve route were needled with warming moxibustion applied on top of the needles to further soften the muscle and move any stagnant blood.

The patient reported an immediate reduction in her symptoms with a 90% improvement.

Remember: the site of the pain is not always the origin. Careful examination and palpation is the key to effective clinical outcomes.

ℹ️ Usually caused by a herniated or bulged disc in the L4/5, L5/S1 vertebrae or tight muscles along the course of the nerve. Which can result in an impingement of the sciatic nerve. This causes pain and or tingling/numbness down the path of sciatic nerve.
