1st February each year marks International Wheelchair Day - when we celebrate the positive impact a wheelchair can have on the life of a wheelchair user. In Australia we are lucky enough to be supported through various funding schemes that provide access to a multitude of wheelchairs that allow improved participation in daily activities.
For others around the world, this is not the case. IWD is about acknowledging the impact a wheelchair can have on a users life, celebrating those that design, fabricate, script, and provide access to wheelchairs, and emphasise the need for improved accessibility to such life changing assistive technology around the world, with millions of people lacking access to, funding for, and ability to obtain a wheelchair.
Wheelchairs is what we do! We love seeing the difference a wheelchair has on the lives of our clients, especially in those left field, slightly sideways, and a little tilted situations where the seating isn't straight forward - but the unicorn is captured and worlds change.
