What is the most misunderstood aspect of plastic surgery?

A common misconception is that plastic surgery isn’t “real” surgery. In reality, these are complex medical procedures that require specialist training, detailed planning, and appropriate aftercare.

Like all surgery, there are risks, recovery considerations, and individual factors that need to be carefully assessed.

In this video, Dr Kohout explores why it’s important to approach plastic surgery with the same level of understanding and consideration as any other surgical procedure.

Smoking and surgery: what you need to know before your procedure

Smoking and ni****ne use are associated with an increased risk of complications during and after surgery. This includes delayed wound healing, higher infection risk, and potential impacts on scarring and overall recovery.

There are a range of evidence-based approaches that may support smoking cessation, including behavioural therapy, counselling programs, and medically supervised treatments. The most appropriate option will vary from person to person and should be discussed with your GP or healthcare provider.

Research indicates that stopping smoking prior to surgery may reduce the risk of complications, with longer periods of cessation associated with improved outcomes.

If you have questions about how smoking or va**ng may affect your individual surgical plan, this can be discussed during your consultation.
