In the early ’90s, sildenafil citrate was trialled as a treatment for heart disease.

It didn’t work as hoped, but it did have one unexpected benefit: increased erections. A total win for men.

Fast forward to 2013, when a randomised study found another surprising benefit, this time for women, girls and people who menstruate.

Researchers discovered that taking what we now know as Vi**ra provided four hours of complete period pain relief.

The catch? Period pain wasn't viewed as a priority public health issue.

Despite two appeals for more funding and research, the benefits of this drug for menstruators were never explored

Amy is on the mark, it’s time we start treating menstruators' pain like it matters.

At Family Planning Tasmania, we are committed to supporting individuals and families through all stages of life, including palliative care.

We believe that everyone, regardless of their health condition, deserves to experience dignity, comfort, and meaningful connections when accessing palliative care services.

💬 In the coming weeks, our team will be collaborating with palliative care professionals to deliver workshops focused on providing respectful, compassionate guidance around intimacy and addressing sexual health when accessing palliative care settings.

Let’s continue to have open conversations about sexuality and intimacy in palliative care — because everyone deserves care that respects their full humanity.

This program is supported by funding from Primary Health Tasmania (Tasmania PHN) through the Australian Government’s Primary Health Networks Program.

A contraceptive pill, endometriosis treatment and an IVF drug will be made cheaper to access, in the latest round of women’s health funding announced by the Albanese government.

The government will fund several additions to the Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme (PBS), including the contraceptive pill ‘Slinda’ which is a progestogen-only pill, and the new endometriosis treatment Ryeqo.

Both those drugs will be listed on the PBS from May 1, following recommendations by the Pharmaceutical Benefits Advisory Council.

Over 100,000 Australian women are expected to benefit from the listing of the Slinda pill each year, who without subsidy, might pay more than $250 for a year of treatment. The drug Ryeqo, which is a relatively new pain treatment for endometriosis, currently costs up to $2,700 for a year’s supply.

Merry Christmas to all our lovely clients, from Lola and I!

2024 has flown and we have been flat out, especially the last part of the year, thanks for all your support.

We will be back on deck from Jan 14th, with limited hours until school goes back.

Hope everyone has a wonderful break and don’t forget to do your exercises 😉

Thank you for all the love on my post yesterday, it means so much to have you all sharing your ideas and ways to help 🙏

For everyone who said they wanted to donate a bag, Bunnings nationwide will be collection points and they will be collecting from 15 November to 1 December this year.

We ask that every bag contains:
- Toothbrush & Toothpaste
- Shampoo & Conditioner
- Body wash
- Deodorant (roll-on preferred)
- Period products

The rest is up to your bag size, your budget and your imagination 🩷 But we ask that you include the essentials so women and girls who are fleeing domestic violence or experiencing homeless have the basic essentials they need and deserve.

On Tuesday I met a recipient named Amy and after she fled domestic violence her and her daughter each received a bag. She told me the bag restored her dignity and to be honest it was the first time I really realised the impact this little charity I created has made.

Thank you for being part of this legacy, the lasting impact you have on recipients is incomprehensible, so from the bottom of my heart, thank you.
