It is with deep sadness we announce the peaceful passing of Stephen on the 8th January 2026 at the MCH, aged 74 years, following a battle with cancer.
Loving husband of Denise. Cherished father of Daniel, Mark (dec.), and Brendan. Pop to Cody, Will, Kasey and Willow.

Family and friends are warmly invited to attend Stephen's funeral service which will be held at Westella Chapel, 68 Westella Drive, Ulverstone, on Thursday 15th of January 2026, commencing at 1pm. Followed by a private cremation. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Cancer Council of Tasmania.

Here are small but powerful ways to show you care:
✨Reach out gently - A simple message like "I'm thinking of you" can remind them they're not alone.
✨Listen without fixing - Let them talk, cry or sit in silence. Your role isn't to solve the pain but to hold space for it.
✨Offer practical help - Bring a meal, run an errand
or help with daily tasks that feel overwhelming.
✨Remember key dates - Check in on anniversaries
or birthdays; these moments can be especially tender.
✨Be patient - Grief has no timeline. Continue to
show up, even when the world moves on.

What drew you to the funeral industry?
I saw years ago Andrew Denton interviewing a mortician and I thought that would be something I’d like to get into... and here I am now at Westella! I do enjoy the mortuary, however I’ve found it very rewarding and a real honour to sit with families and help organise a meaningful farewell for their loved one.

What are your funeral wishes?
I’d like to be cremated and farewelled by my nearest and dearest.

Your favourite funeral songs?
Dancing in the Sky and to mix it up and keep it light.. Living next door to Alice (the uncut version!).

Drink of choice?
Water... however, I do love a nice cold beer.

Food?
Crumbed lamb cutlets plus raspberry and white chocolate cheese cake.

Animal?
Dog

Holiday Destination?
Anywhere, I had my dream holiday a couple of years ago spending a month in America.

Early bird or night owl?
Early bird

What do you do to unwind?
Garden, housework, spending time with my family and friends.

Born 11th September 1946, passed away peacefully but suddenly at Eliza Purton Nursing Home, West Ulverstone on 1st January 2026. Beloved daughter of Abner “Bill” and Dorothy Jeffrey (both deceased). Beloved wife of Michael, together 48 years. Loved sister and sister in-law of Allan Jeffrey (dec.), Kathleen Jeffrey (dec.), Billy and Christie Jeffrey, Garry Jeffrey (dec.) and Denise Bird. Dearly loved Mum and Mum in-law of Barry and Joanne Gower, Sally Cooper, Tracey and John Jammas, and Lisa Gower and partner Joe. Loved Step-Mum to Mandy and Steve Smith, Jodi and Gavin Mulvenna and Jacki and Paul Saunders. Loved Nanny Isabel and Nanna Belle by her 17 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren.

“My passion and purpose is the funeral industry. I love helping people and with great pride I feel it’s a real honour to help those people that need me.” - Aleena

Aleena has previously worked as a funeral assistant and is excited to be back doing what she loves and where she is meant to be after having a little break. Aleena enjoys working with Jenna in the mortuary, facilitating viewings of loved ones, assisting on funerals, serving refreshments and keeping our Westella garden looking beautiful. 🌿 🩶
