EmpowerHer is a wonderful initiative. If you have a project in mind that will have a positive impact on the lives of women in Queensland, applications for grants are now open!

Breaking down barriers so women can thrive. 💪🏽

The EmpowerHER initiative is a two-day workshop series designed to help women from culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) backgrounds, particularly mothers returning to work, gain the skills and confidence they need to achieve long-term economic independence.

Run by the Multicultural Communities Council Gold Coast - MCCGC and supported by an Empowering Queensland Women grant, the program addresses key barriers to employment, such as childcare access, employment gaps, and challenges with language and digital skills.

The MCCGC's Kyzzy Romano says the EmpowerHER initiative, bolstered by the Empowering Queensland Women grant, "truly resonates with women".

“When women have access to opportunities, community, and support, they are empowered to shape their futures and our community as a whole grows stronger."
The 2026 round of our Empowering Queensland Women grants program is open, with grants of up to $10,000 available for projects that improve women’s economic security and create lasting community impact.

Dilation and Curettage (D&C) is a common procedure undertaken in the management of miscarriage or non-viable pregnancy. It involves gentle removal of pregnancy tissue from the uterus.

Did you know that you can safely choose between Surgical and Medical Abortion in early pregnancy?

There is a common misconception that Surgical Abortion is only available after 9 weeks however, it can be safely accessed from as early as 6 weeks after your last menstrual period.

Surgical abortion is generally considered a quick procedure, with care completed in a single day visit.

On the day, bring with you:
Photo ID
Medicare and/or Private Health Insurance details
Appropriate underwear and Sanitary pads
Comfy clothes
Some distractions for while you are waiting such as music and headphones, a book or a magazine.

Thinking about an abortion? You have options.

If you are pregnant and considering an abortion, it is important to understand the options available and to choose what feels right for you.

There are two main options for termination of pregnancy (abortion):

Medical Abortion:
A series of tablets taken to end an early pregnancy, up to 9 weeks. This happens in the comfort and privacy of your home and can be similar to a miscarriage.

Surgical Abortion:
A short procedure performed in our Day Hospital, where suction is used to gently empty the uterus. The procedure usually takes between 5 - 10 minutes. It is available for anyone between 6 - 14 weeks pregnant.

Both options are safe, effective and legal.
