Yesterday we celebrated a special milestone as Arcare Croydon officially opened its doors. Our first residents, John and Joan, had the honour of cutting the ribbon, while Greg has already been busy getting to know our wonderful nursing team.
Arcare Croydon is our 57th residence nationally, located next to Cherry Tree Grove Retirement Village. With 91 suites spread across two levels and premium amenities including a cinema, and café, this new community has been thoughtfully designed to enjoy the beautiful vistas. Their answers are honest, wise, and sometimes a little cheeky - reminding us that love, heartbreak, and resilience are part of every generation’s story. ✨
When new resident Helen walked into Rita’s room at Arcare, she never expected to be reunited with her primary school friend from 1945. 💜
After realising Rita was the same “Rita Gunn” she knew from The Sacred Heart Primary School, the two embraced with excitement, rekindling a friendship that began over 75 years ago.
Their story is a heartwarming reminder of the connections, joy, and surprises that can blossom in aged care. 🌸
And when asked what advice she’d give to others moving into aged care, Rita shared: “Introduce yourself to the other residents, go to activities and meet new people. Just do and be yourself - it is easy to make new friends and keep active.”
Arcare Birtinya was swept up in the spirit of the British invasion as the talented Jonathan Hayden Band took to the stage. Their performance brought a line-up of classic hits, rich harmonies and timeless melodies that had everyone tapping their feet and singing along.

John, Russell and Graham Knowles met Ian Ball in the 1960s while sub-contracting together on church-funded retirement villages. In 1976 they built their first retirement village together, The Frankston Baptist Centre, on the outskirts of Frankston in Victoria. In 2007, their company, Australian Retirement Communities (ARC), was the largest private retirement village operator in Australia with 22 villages and 3000 + units across Victoria and Queensland.
ARCare was established as the aged care arm of ARC in 1997, building their first aged care residence in Reservoir, Victoria.
Co-located with ARC’s LaTrobe Retirement Village, ARCare Latrobe (now known as Arcare Reservoir) in Reservoir is a 58 bed low care residence. In 2007 ARC sold their retirement village portfolio to Stockland. From then on, ARCare became known as Arcare, and thus began a new era in aged care.
Arcare now own and operate 39 aged care residences across Melbourne, New South Wales and Queensland, and provide services in the home.
In 2015 our unique Dedicated Staff Assignment won a Federal Government Better Practice Award.
