One of my goals this year is to cook more at home 👩🏻‍🍳 If you know me and my family we have a habit of eating out a lot for the convenience (typical HK culture) 😅 Unfortunately, eating out isn’t always the healthiest (or cheapest) option 🤑

This year I’m making more of an effort to cook more regularly at home so our family can have more balanced meals (and save money!) 🍽️ But something else you may not know about me - despite being a dietitian, I am a very basic cook 💁🏻‍♀️

Rest assured, any recipes or meal tips that I share will be nutritionally balanced but also simple and practical 🙌🏻 (If you’re good cook please don’t judge my chopping and cooking skills 🤣)

In this meal I used grated veggies to sneak in some extra fibre and tinned lentils for more protein and fibre 🫘 You could boost the protein and fibre content even more by using a lentil/pulse pasta or adding some textured vegetable protein (TVP) with the mince (check my feed for the TVP recipe) 😊

Beginning a yoga practice and/or trying a new studio can feel really scary. When designing the studio space we made conscious decisions to make it feel cozy and inviting, from the calm colours to having no mirrors (so you can focus on FEELING into your body) 🙏🏻

This is a space where you can:
💜 Come as you are, no matter what age, gender, race, culture or physical skill
💜 Wear clothes you’re comfortable moving in (even your PJ’s if you fancy)
💜 Take child’s pose or savasana for the whole session if that’s what your body needs
💜 Do as much or as little of the asanas (poses) as you want (there are always options/modifications provided for poses)
💜 Focus on how you FEEL rather than how you LOOK in poses

It’s time for our annual Christmas class and party! This year our feature class will be a little different to previous years!

What to expect:

- 75-minute yoga feature class (including a Gentle Flow sequence + partner/group yoga pose challenges 🤫)
- Snacks and (non-alcoholic) drinks

Thought I had pretty good standing balance - then I tried lunging and wide legged poses on a smooth floor wearing socks 🫠

Featuring some sequences and poses we’ve worked on this past week. Small tweaks can make traditional poses feel much deeper and more challenging like a heel raise in a lunge, switching on adductors and abductors in triangle pose, flexed foot in half moon pose…

Today marks 322 days of breastfeeding so far. A few months ago the thought of stopping and not having that skin-to-skin and bonding time with my baby anymore would bring tears to my eyes. But recently I’ve felt ready for my breastfeeding journey to come to an end.

In honour of this incredible journey here’s a summary of the things I’ve learnt along the way. Ask AI what a dietitian looks like and it’ll probably give you a picture of a stern looking lady wearing a lab coat, posing next to some fruit and vegetables… 🙄

While I do love fruit and veggies, I want to bust one of the biggest stereotypes about dietitians: that we’re strict, no-fun people who have the perfect diet and watch and judge everything you eat 🫨

Often people see me for the first time expecting to be given a ‘strict meal plan’ and being told they’re no longer allowed to eat their favourite foods. That couldn’t be further from the truth.

Instead, my clients typically experience:
⭐️ Better clarity around which foods to include more of (instead of cutting out)
⭐️ Increased confidence with preparing healthier meals
⭐️ Improved relationship with food (it no longer causes anxiety and overwhelm)
⭐️ Better connection with their body (like hunger cues, mood, energy)
⭐️ Reassurance that they can still have their favourite foods 🍪🍫🥂

🎊 Most importantly, my clients have a personal cheerleader on their side 🎊 Someone who WANTS them to succeed and celebrates with them when they do. Who advocates for their health with their family members and other health care professionals when necessary.

LumaFlow Yoga & Nutrition is one of the first multi-lingual studios in Brisbane, offering yoga classes and nutrition consultations in English, Cantonese and Mandarin.

We believe that everyone and every body is capable of practising yoga, regardless of age, gender, religion or background. This is why we aim to make yoga as affordable and accessible as possible. The same philosophy applies to our nutrition consultations. Food and eating should be enjoyable, and a balanced diet does not have to be hard or expensive!

Our goal is to help you find your glow by nourishing your mind and body through yoga and nutrition.
