Last night I stood beside my daughter in a sea of people watching Lorde — and I was struck by the depth of her lyrics.

Her songs hold so much of what we see in the playroom every day:

✨ Growing up and not quite knowing who you are yet.
✨ The push and pull between independence and belonging.
✨ Big feelings that don’t always make sense.
✨ Friendship shifts.
✨ First heartbreaks.
✨ Wanting to be seen — but also wanting to hide.

There’s something powerful about hearing thousands of voices sing about insecurity, identity, anger, longing and joy — out loud, unapologetically.

So much of Lorde’s writing captures that in-between space — not a child anymore, not fully an adult either. That tender, sometimes messy, beautifully human stage of becoming.

As a play therapist, I’m constantly reminded that children and teens don’t need their feelings fixed — they need them witnessed.

Last night, music did the witnessing.

My daughter and I didn’t just sing the lyrics — we felt them.
And in doing so, we shared something wordless but deeply connecting.

Art gives language to emotions that feel too big, too confusing, or too vulnerable to say directly.

And that’s what play does too.

Sometimes healing looks like toys on the floor.
Sometimes it looks like tears.
And sometimes it looks like singing at the top of your lungs in a crowded stadium.

Big feelings deserve big spaces. 🖤

So much goodness in one room today 💛✨

We had the absolute joy of welcoming Megan from Sacred House Play Therapy and Jae from Little Hands Play Therapy into the Curious Box Playroom for some yummy food, warm cups of tea, and rich conversations about all things Play Therapy in our local community.

There’s something pretty special about play therapists gathering together — sharing stories, ideas, reflections, and dreaming about how we can continue supporting children and families to heal and thrive. 🌿🎨🧸

Grateful for women who are passionate about the power of play and the little humans we get to walk alongside every week. 💛

Here’s to more shared tables, thoughtful conversations, and strengthening Play Therapy in our local community.

Thanks for coming!

Wrapping Up International Play Therapy Week

February 1–7, 2026**

As International Play Therapy Week comes to a close, we want to take a moment to honour the heart, care, and dedication that goes into the therapeutic work we do every day.

At Curious Box Play Therapy, we are incredibly proud of our small but mighty team — Mercia, Emily, and Dawn — who show up with creativity, compassion, and a deep commitment to supporting children and families through the transformative power of play.

This week has been a beautiful reminder of:

🧸 How play gives children a voice
🎨 How creativity supports healing
🌱 How safe relationships build resilience
💬 How connection helps children make sense of their world

Thank you to our families, our community, and the children who inspire us daily. Your trust is the reason we do what we do.

As the week ends, our commitment continues — to creating safe spaces, nurturing emotional growth, and championing the power of play all year round.

Happy International Play Therapy Week — and thank you for celebrating with us! 💛

✨ Feel free to drop them off at the clinic anytime during business hours.
Thank you for helping us create a richer, more creative space for the children we support. 💛

I popped into the shops today and somehow walked out with seven little Stitch miniatures… and honestly, each one feels like an end-of-term mood in play therapy 💙✨

In our playroom, characters like Stitch remind me how kids show up with big feelings, messy moments, silly energy, curiosity, and so much heart. And just like these tiny Stitches, we hold space for all the different parts of them — the tired part, the excited part, the overwhelmed part, the growing-braver-every-day part.

As the term wraps up, I’m feeling a bit like a whole collection of Stitches too — grateful, goofy, exhausted, tender, and full of love for the kids and families I get to support through play.

Here’s to embracing all our “many Stitches” as we slide into the end of term.

Play makes room for every version of us 💙🌺🧸

🎄✨ Curious Box Christmas Magic! ✨🎄
Today, we celebrated our very first Curious Box staff Christmas party — and what a beautiful, joy-filled afternoon it was!

The team spent time together creating gorgeous Christmas wreaths, playing with flowers, and soaking up the festive spirit. 🌿🎀❤️

I’m feeling so grateful for this amazing team — for their passion, their hearts, and the way they show up every single day for the children and families we support.

2026 is going to be such an exciting year as our team grows, and our services expand to reach even more little humans who need a safe, playful, healing space. 🌈✨

Here’s to connection, creativity, and a bright year ahead.

Merry Christmas from the Curious Box family! 🎁💛
