The Disability Trust and embarc employment team members attended the Careers day at Monaro High School on Tuesday the 2nd of September.
The Disability Trust showcased what we can offer students to support them in traineeships and support work within the disability sector. We also discussed and explored the opportunities for NDIS goals around employment and volunteering for individuals that want to live work and thrive in their community.
It was a fantastic day and the students and teachers were great to engage with.
Thank you to the Monaro High School for presenting the event and to the amazing organisers.

From Dream to Reality: Brent’s First Job at Pambula Merimbula Golf Club
Brent had one big goal - to land his very first paid job.
With the support of his dedicated support worker, Brent explored a range of local workplaces, meeting employers who were eager to show him what they do. These visits gave Brent the chance to see what kind of work sparked his interest, and what didn’t!
That’s when Brent was introduced to the team at Pambula Merimbula Golf Club, a long-term inclusive employer with a passion for supporting people of all abilities. They instantly saw Brent’s enthusiasm and wanted to be part of his journey into employment.
Working alongside Brent’s NDIS Team Leader, and with the guidance of embarc, a brand-new role was created just for him.
Brent’s first day on the job was nothing short of a success. Not only did he get stuck into his work, but he also got to drive the club’s flash John Deere buggy - the ultimate highlight!
This milestone wouldn’t have been possible without the collaborative efforts of Brent’s support network and the openness of a truly inclusive employer. Here’s to many more great days ahead for Brent on the golf course!

🌟 Creating Inclusive Pathways for Students with Disability 🌟
Last week, The Disability Trust and Embarc Employment proudly took part in two Student Pathways sessions at Eden High and the Bega Civic Centre. These events brought together schools and the wider community to explore how we can build more inclusive opportunities for secondary students with disability.
đź’¬ We heard powerful stories about job customisation, gained insights from the Merimbula Tourism Centre (linked to our Tourism Navigator pilot), and welcomed valuable input from teachers, parents, and community members. Together, we focused on breaking down barriers and strengthening the transition from school to work.
👩‍🏫 Corina Parr, Team Leader – Employment & Inclusion, presented at Eden High on the importance of early planning and collaboration in accessing and using NDIS supports for school leavers.
🎤 Peter Harvey, Manager – Community Programs , joined a panel discussion on the value of inclusive practices in schools, sharing how they can help shape brighter futures for all students.
👏 A huge thank you to Britt Fogg from the Department of Education for making these sessions possible and bringing everyone together!
