🕐 INTERMITTENT FASTING in Ayurveda: Tailored by Dosha!

Trying intermittent fasting? Ayurveda says it’s not one-size-fits-all — your Vata, Pitta, or Kapha constitution determines what works best for you.

Here’s how to fast safely & effectively based on your dosha:

🌪VATA (Air + Ether)
Light, dry, mobile – needs grounding and routine.
⚠️ Long fasts = anxiety, weakness, bloating
✅ Best: Max 12-hour overnight fast (e.g. 7 PM to 7 AM)
🥗 Meal Timings:

Breakfast: 6:30–7:00 AM

Lunch: 12:00–12:30 PM (main meal)

Dinner: 6:00–6:30 PM (light, warm)

🔥 PITTA (Fire + Water)
Sharp, intense digestion – gets “hangry” when hungry.
⚠️ Fasting too long = acidity, irritability
✅ Best: 12–14 hour fast (e.g. 7 PM to 9 AM)
🥗 Meal Timings:

Breakfast: 7:30–8:00 AM

Lunch: 12:00–1:00 PM (biggest meal)

Dinner: 6:00–6:30 PM (cooling, light)

❄️ KAPHA (Earth + Water)
Heavy, slow metabolism – thrives on fasting
✅ Best: 16 hour fast (e.g. 6:30 PM to 10:30 AM)
🥗 Meal Timings:

Skip Breakfast (optional) and have 2 meals a day.

Lunch: 10:00–11:30 AM (main meal)

Dinner: 6:00–6:30 PM (light, dry, warm)

🧘‍♀️

Did you know that Ayurveda and yogic wisdom both recognize 7 energy centers (chakras) that influence your body, mind, and spirit?

Each chakra connects with specific doshas, elements, organs, and even vibrational sounds (bija mantras). When these centers are balanced, energy flows freely and health flourishes.

✨ Meditation Benefits: Meditation calms the mind (manas), purifies the nadis (energy channels), and activates the chakras through breath, focus, and sound. Chanting bija mantras helps unlock blocked energy and bring harmony.

🔸 Muladhara (Root Chakra) – Vata imbalance (fear, insecurity)
👉 Mantra: "LAM" – Grounding, stability, connection to Earth

🔸 Swadhisthana (Sacral Chakra) – Reproductive health, creativity
👉 Mantra: "VAM" – Flow, pleasure, water element

🔸 Manipura (Solar Plexus Chakra) – Pitta center, digestion, self-esteem
👉 Mantra: "RAM" – Fire, transformation, inner power

🔸 Anahata (Heart Chakra) – Love, compassion, air element
👉 Mantra: "YAM" – Emotional healing, circulation

🔸 Vishuddha (Throat Chakra) – Expression, communication, Kapha link
👉 Mantra: "HAM" – Truth, clarity, purification

🔸 Ajna (Third Eye Chakra) – Mind, intuition, clarity
👉 Mantra: "OM" – Wisdom, perception, mental balance

🔸 Sahasrara (Crown Chakra) – Pure consciousness, spiritual connection
👉 Mantra: Silence / OM – Bliss, unity, beyond the physical

🧘‍♂️ Daily meditation with these sounds not only balances your chakras, but also supports your dosha constitution and overall Ayurvedic health.

Today I had a patient who reminded me why Greeva Basti is such a gift from Ayurveda.

She came to me just a week ago with severe cervical spondylitis — pain radiating from her neck to her shoulders, stiffness, and even mild tingling in her arms. Like many, her job involves hours at a desk, and the discomfort had become part of her daily life.

Today was her 7th session of Greeva Basti, and the transformation is already visible. Her stiffness has reduced, her sleep has improved, and most importantly—she’s smiling again.

What is Greeva Basti?
It’s a deeply therapeutic Ayurvedic treatment where warm medicated oil is retained on the neck region using a dough dam. This allows the healing herbs to pe*****te deep into the muscles, joints, and nerves, balancing vata dosha and reducing inflammation.

According to Ayurvedic texts, true healing doesn’t happen overnight.
📚 Depending on the severity, one may need 5 to 21 sessions—just like this patient who’s already seeing results in just 7 days.

I always say—“Don’t chase quick fixes, choose deep healing.”
Ayurveda works with your body, not against it.

If you or someone you know suffers from neck pain, stiffness, or cervical issues, maybe it’s time to try what nature intended.

📞 DM me or call to see if Greeva Basti is right for you

Let your neck breathe again—with Ayurveda. 🧘‍♀️

🍊🌧️ Seasonal Fruits: Nature’s Wisdom for Monsoon Wellness 🌿

In Ayurveda, each season influences the doshas, and aligning our diet accordingly helps us stay healthy and balanced. Seasonal fruits play a vital role in this — they are nature’s own prescription for wellbeing.

📜 As explained in classical Ayurvedic texts, fruits that ripen naturally in their season have the right rasa (taste), virya (potency), and vipaka (post-digestive effect) to support our body’s needs during that time.

🌧️ In Varsha Rutu (Monsoon Season), the Vata dosha is aggravated due to the cold, damp, and unstable environment. Agni (digestive fire) is weakened, which can lead to poor digestion and lower immunity.

🍊 Oranges or mandarins are an excellent choice during monsoon:

Their light and slightly sour taste stimulates Agni, improves digestion, and supports natural detoxification.

Oranges are rich in natural vitamin C and antioxidants — ideal for boosting immunity during this season.

🔥 In summer, juicy fruits like watermelon and mango help pacify Pitta.
🥶 In winter, grounding fruits like guava and custard apple help balance Vata and nourish the body.

🌿 Eating with the season — known as Ritucharya — is one of the foundational principles of Ayurveda to maintain health, harmony, and vitality.

✨ This monsoon, let seasonal fruits be your daily dose of balance and wellbeing.

Feeling heavy, stiff, or aching in your joints? These are signs your body may be burdened with Āma – undigested toxins clogging your internal channels.

✨ In Ayurveda, Swedana (therapeutic sweating) is one of the prime treatments to liquefy and eliminate Āma from the body. Among its various forms, Valukasweda (sand fomentation) is especially effective for Vata-Kapha disorders and conditions with Āma accumulation.

🔥 What is Valukasweda?
It is a dry heat therapy using heated sand, applied to the body to promote sweating and detoxification.

✅ Benefits of Valukasweda:
• Removes stiffness and heaviness
• Reduces joint pain and swelling
• Enhances circulation and flexibility
• Aids in flushing out Āma (toxins)
• Useful in rheumatoid arthritis, sciatica, frozen shoulder, and inflammatory joint disorders

📖 Classical Reference – Charaka Samhita (Sutra Sthana, Chapter 14 – Swedadhyaya):

> “Āmārtaśūlaśophāṇāṁ viṣamajvarakāsinām |
Rukśavātakaphāṇāṁ ca śreṣṭhaḥ svedo nigadyate ||”
(Charaka Sutra Sthana 14/5)

🔍 Translation:
Swedana (sudation) is considered the best therapy in conditions such as Āma-related joint pain, swelling, stiffness, irregular fevers, and diseases caused by Vata and Kapha doshas.

💬 As I prepare these sandbags today for tomorrow’s therapies, I’m reminded how Ayurveda is not a shortcut, but a deeply committed healing system. It requires effort before, during, and even after the treatment – from both the practitioner and the patient. Every therapy is crafted with care, knowledge, and respect for nature’s rhythm.

Today, a lovely patient asked me,
“Doctor, my skin feels so dry and dull this winter. What can I do naturally to bring back the glow?”

I smiled and said,
“Let’s turn to Ayurveda’s golden treasure – Saffron Tea!” 🌼☕

Saffron, or Kesar, is more than just a fragrant spice – in Ayurveda, it’s known to enhance skin complexion, balance Vata dryness, and boost inner radiance during winter. ✨

I recommended she sip on warm saffron tea daily – just a few strands steeped in hot water with a pinch of cardamom or cinnamon. Once slightly cooled, she can add a little raw honey for sweetness and nourishment.

🍵 This simple tea improves circulation, aids digestion, and deeply nourishes the skin from within – the Ayurvedic way. 🌿

She left smiling, excited to try it – and I thought, “Why not share this with all of you too?”

Give your skin a natural winter glow – one cup at a time. And yes don't forget your moisturizer.😄

With warmth,
🌿 Payal Pankhania

As the weather turns cold and damp in Western Australia, Vata and Kapha can rise—bringing stiffness, low energy, and sluggish digestion. Ayurveda invites you to gently warm, nourish, and protect your body this season.

✨ Your Simple Winter Wellness Guide:
🥣 Eat Warm, Light & Spiced: Think soups, stews, and khichadi with ginger, cumin, and black pepper. Avoid cold, heavy foods like yogurt, ice cream, or raw salads.

🌰 Superfood of the Season: Black Sesame Seeds
Rich in calcium and healthy fats, they strengthen bones, nourish hair, and keep Vata in check. Add to your porridge or make warm laddoos with jaggery!

🌿 Super Herb of winter: Ashwagandha
A warming adaptogen that boosts energy, strengthens immunity, and combats winter fatigue. Take as a warm drink with milk (or plant milk) at night.

🛁 Warm Oil Massage (Abhyanga): Daily with sesame oil to soothe joints and skin.

🌞 Morning Sun Moments: 15 minutes of sunlight uplifts mood and supports immunity.

🧘‍♀️ Move with Intention: Yoga, brisk walking, and pranayama (like Anulom Vilom) keep the body and mind active.

💛 Let winter be a season of strength and stillness. Let Ayurveda be your inner warmth.

Book you Initial Ayurveda consultation for individual diet and lifestyle guide according to Ayurveda ( Ancient Indian medicine).
