FAQs
We've compiled a comprehensive list of FAQs at our website, which we hope will answer any questions you might have: https://storyofmylifejournal.com/contact/faq/

However, we're also providing some of those FAQs here:

PRODUCT
- How can I be sure the Story of My Life Journal is for me? Journaling is quite subjective, and people’s opinions and preferences can vary quite significantly. We can’t

promise you’ll love your Story of My Life Journal (we certainly hope you do), but we can promise we’ll be here to support you in getting the most out of it. We’ve provided a comprehensive overview of how your Story of My Life Journal works, so you know what to expect. We recommend checking out our blogs and resources, as well as signing up for our newsletter, to get to know us a little better and see if you like our style.

- Do you have any other products, besides the journal? Not at the moment, but our intention is to introduce a range of products as we grow, all designed to support you in discovering who you are, where you want to go, and how you’ll get there.

- Will the Story of My Life Journal make me feel better? We want to say something upfront, to be really clear about it: no-one involved in producing the Story of My Life Journal is a psychologist/psychiatrist. We have an interest in mental health and wellbeing, and the tools employed in the Story of My Life Journal system are authentic psychotherapeutic approaches (and all have been referenced), but we are not qualified mental health practitioners. Your Story of My Life Journal has been designed to support you in identifying who you are, where you want to go, and how you’ll get there – it’s designed to help you find meaning and purpose, and support you in pursuing it. It doesn’t take much Googling to come up with hundreds of studies that have linked the pursuit of meaning, purpose, and meaningful goals with positive emotion and mental wellbeing, and the same goes for journaling, which can support the reduction of negative emotions through affective labelling. So, what we’re saying is: we hope your Story of My Life Journal helps you feel better – its tools have been designed to do so – and you might find your journal can be used as a supportive and complementary tool in any strategies you’re employing in managing your mental wellbeing. However, the Story of My Life Journal is not a treatment for any mental health condition, and was not designed to be. If you are experiencing challenges in your life that you feel are beyond your ability to manage on your own, please contact the appropriate health care professional (such as your GP or psychologist) or support service (such as Australia’s Lifeline).

- Who is the Story of My Life Journal for? Your Story of My Life Journal has been designed to support those wanting to get a better understanding of who they are and what drives them, where they want to go, and help them formulate a plan on how to get there. It has not been designed specifically for men or women, nor for any particular age group, and it hasn’t been designed to focus on your work-life (that is: this is not a business/productivity journal); it’s simply been designed to support those who relate to the aforementioned purpose. If that sounds like you, it’s for you.

- What should I expect from my Story of My Life Journal? Ok, so there’s a whole page (Our story) dedicated to explaining how your Story of My Life Journal came about, but here’s some extra information that will hopefully help answer this question. The Story of My Life Journal system was designed by Glen Foreman. He’s a keen journaler. He was using a particular journal, which he found very good, for years, but there were some aspects he wasn’t happy with. For example, while much of it employed authentic tools, there were some elements that felt a little too new-agey and wishy-washy. He also felt the pre-work didn’t offer adequate support to dive deep enough, nor to address problematic issues and challenges. It was largely targeted at women, and felt a little too positive in parts (don’t get us wrong, positivity is important, but so is ‘calling a spade a spade’ sometimes [sorry for our international friends who aren’t familiar with that Aussie-ism]). So, why tell you that? Because, hopefully, it gives you some idea of what to expect from your Story of My Life Journal, particularly when compared to other journals. The pre-work has been designed to go deeper into your psyche than most journals to not only give you a better understanding of who you are and who you want to be, but also help you identify the parts of you that you might want to change and that are holding you back. And it does so only with authentic tools and strategies, with all references provided to you, to give you peace of mind. In terms of time commitment, your Story of My Life Journal is a daily journal, but has been designed to not be a burden (10min morning check-in, and 10min evening review once you’re into your daily pages). The pre-work will likely be the most challenging and time-consuming element of your journal, but time guides and recommended schedules have been provided to you to help you avoid feeling overwhelmed.

- How can I stock the Story of My Life Journal? Thanks so much for your interest. We would love for you to stock the Story of My Life Journal and/or other products. Get in touch by emailing support@ffpress.com.au and we can discuss options.

- Do you offer a digital app or journal? Not at the moment, but we’re considering it as part of our future plans. There is also a challenge with digital journals and apps, and that’s in the science of it all. Head to the “Our Research” section of the Our Story page for a more detailed explanation, but in a nutshell: writing is far more effective when it comes to journaling and goalsetting. We set out to create a journal of authentic tools and strategies that supported people in discovering who they are, where they want to go, and how they would get there. Research would suggest that a straight-up digital version of the journal would not be as effective in supporting you achieve that. And, hey, hopefully you know you can trust us when we tell you that, because from a business perspective, it’s WAY more beneficial to create a downloadable, digital product. No printing, shipping, wastage, or storage costs! So, our consideration of a digital product is how we can complement your Story of My Life Journal, or support your personal development journey in a meaningful way. SHIPPING
- What countries do you ship to? We are only shipping within our home country of Australia upon launch, but our intention is to ship internationally to most countries as soon as possible.

- What payments do you accept? Our store is powered by WooCommerce Payments, allowing us to accept most major credit and debit cards, and digital wallet options (such as Google and Apple Pay).

- Can I change or cancel my order? If you need to change or cancel your order, get in touch with us as soon as possible (support@ffpress.com.au) and we’ll do everything we can to help. However, if your order has already shipped, we apologise, but we won’t be able to recall or change it.

- What is your return/refund policy? We hope you love your Story of My Life Journal and that it becomes a part of your journey for years to come. However, if it’s not working out, please contact us (support@ffpress.com.au) within 30 days of receiving your product to discuss a return, exchange, or refund. Please be aware, we can only provide refunds for goods returned in an as-new condition that are able to be resold. For that reason, we recommend you read your Story of My Life Journal before beginning it, to ensure you’re happy with it, and please ensure you do not write in, or damage it in any way if you intend to seek a refund.

- How long will it take to receive my order? We strive to fulfill all orders within 24hrs of being placed. All orders are shipped via Australia Post and are subject to standard postage times and delays. Most orders will be received between 3-5 business days (subject to variation based on conditions, such as COVID impacts and seasonal volumes).

- How do you work out shipping costs? Shipping costs are based on order size and weight and determined using Australia Post calculations. MORE SUPPORT
- Where can I go for mental health support? If you are experiencing challenges in your life that you feel are beyond your ability to manage on your own, please contact the appropriate health care professional (such as your GP or psychologist) or support service (such as Australia’s Lifeline).

- I still have questions, who can I contact? Feel free to get in touch with us at support@ffpress.com.au. We’d love to hear from you.

STRESS LESS | Save this 💾 if you could do with a few tips!
〰️
Believe it or not, having a certain amount of stress in your life is a good thing.
〰️
It keeps your mind engaged in problem-solving activities, and ensures you don’t become sedentary.
〰️
However, like all things in life, stress is all about balance, and if the scales tip too far, it’s important to implement strategies to restore a little peace to your life.
〰️
These are a few easy-to-action tools to keep in your back pocket when needed.

PICTURE THIS | Double-tap and ❤️ if you use visualisation.
〰️
Let's chat about visualisation, because it gets a bit of a bum rap.
〰️
There seems to be a bit of a stigma around it, like it's a bit of an airy-fairy sort of concept - like, picture your wildest dreams and then manifest them like a magician.
〰️
But the visualisation included in your Story of My Life Journal is NOTHING like that.
〰️
Visualisation shows up in a couple of places in your Story of My Life Journal, in particular when you're establishing goals for the eight dimensions of your life.
〰️
And then in your daily check-in pages.
〰️
Far from picturing something and then manifesting it, after defining what you want to achieve, you're asked to visualise the person you need to be to achieve it - specifying how that version of you needs to think, act, and feel.
〰️
This isn't airy-fairy stuff.
〰️
What you're doing is effectively demonstrating to yourself that you CAN achieve what you're setting out to achieve, and that when you think about it, you can actually articulate what that version of you looks like.
〰️
This plays into your psychological needs of autonomy and competence, and makes your goals feel more realistic and achievable, because you're basically laying out a blueprint for yourself to follow.
〰️
Make sure you get in touch if you've got any questions.

MUM'S THE WORD | Make sure you save this 💾 to reference later.
〰️
Hey crew, Glen here - I'm the founder of Story of My Life Journal.
〰️
I wanted to share this incredibly insightful strategy my mum used to get me to do when I was growing up and things weren't going so great.
〰️
Life can be hard sometimes.
〰️
And here's something to think about: we often look back and think, "far out, I thought that was the biggest deal ever at the time, but I'd kill for those challenges compared to the ones I have now!"
〰️
That's because we learn and grow from our challenges, so that we know what to do when we encounter those same challenges again.
〰️
Now ... think about it from the opposite perspective - and it's probably easiest to do this by imagining from a kid's perspective, but it applies to you, too.
〰️
Kids don't have - or have very limited - experiences from which to learn, so EVERYTHING is a big deal, because it's something they've never encountered before.
〰️
It's exactly the same for you with new challenges.
〰️
So, go easy on yourself and try this little strategy from my mum, Lyn - because she's awesome and it works.

THOUGHT LESS | Make sure you save this 💾 for those times you could use it.
〰️
Difficult emotions are an inevitable part of life.
〰️
We can’t protect ourselves against them, but we can develop coping strategies so that when they arise, we’re better equipped to tolerate and move past them.
〰️
The problem is, most of us don’t learn how to manage difficult emotions.
〰️
More often than not, we’re taught to suppress unpleasant feelings: to bottle them up, to ‘stay strong’ or ‘stay positive’ ( right?!).
〰️
However, ignoring our feelings doesn’t make them go away - in practice, it usually makes them worse.
〰️
Learning how to sit with our emotions and finding healthy tools to cope are important essential life skills.
〰️
And many of the daily check-in exercises in your Story of My Life Journal are designed to support you in doing just that.

PS ... we're sorry about the weird captions ... Insta insisted on doing it and there wasn't anything we could do to change it.
〰️
The daily, weekly, monthly, and quarterly check-ins of your Story of My Life Journal include many components designed to support you in becoming who you choose to be.
〰️
One of those components is practicing gratitude.
〰️
In your daily check-in, for example, there's one prompt in the morning and three at the end of the day.
〰️
That's because practicing gratitude has been found to have a profound impact on your wellbeing.
〰️
Among other benefits, it's been found to increase the frequency and intensity of positive emotions, improve physical health, assist in dealing with adversity, and help build strong relationships.
〰️
Listing one thing you're grateful for in the morning helps you start the day on a good note, while listing three at your evening check-in helps you reflect on the day and frame it in a positive way.
〰️
You've likely heard the term neuroplasticity.
〰️
It basically refers to the brain's ability to form and reorganise connections.
〰️
By practicing gratitude daily, you're training your mind to view the world in a more positive light, until it eventually becomes an unconscious habit.
〰️
Hit us up if you've got any questions.
〰️
Thanks for letting us be part of your story.

CHEST BE**ER | Drop a ❤️ if you've heard of this study!
〰️
A little while ago, we chatted about how your goals literally create the world you see by parsing information into three categories: tools, obstacles, and irrelevant.
〰️
There's a classic experiment that demonstrates this, and you might have heard of it, but didn't necessarily realise that was the effect it was highlighting.
〰️
It's called the Invisible Gorilla study.
〰️
The study had participants watch a video of a group of players passing a basketball to each other in a circle, some in white shirts, some in black shirts.
〰️
The participants were instructed to count the number of passes between white-shirt players only.
〰️
Halfway through, a man dressed in a big gorilla suit strolls right into the middle of the group, beats his chest, then walks off screen.
〰️
At the end, the participants were asked how many passes there were … then they were asked if they saw the gorilla.
〰️
OBVIOUSLY they saw him, right?
〰️
Wrong!
〰️
The study found that about half of the participants were so focused on their goal that they were oblivious to the gorilla.
〰️
That's because the gorilla was irrelevant to their goal, so their mind discarded his existence - their eyes might have seen him, but their minds didn't perceive him, because they didn't need to.
〰️
So, remember: the goals you set - and those you choose not to - literally define the way you experience the world.
〰️
What are you seeing … and what are you missing?
〰️
Thanks for letting us be part of your story.

TUNE IN | Share this 🔁 to help others get the drop on music!
〰️
You might have seen or heard us talking about the Daily Moodboosters in your Story of My Life Journal.
〰️
They're proven strategies to improve your wellbeing.
〰️
Some are obvious, but one that might be a surprise inclusion is music.
〰️
That's right: we want you to form a daily habit of listening to music - but not just any music … music in a major key.
〰️
Ok, so why is music one of your Daily Moodbooster?
〰️
Well, it's pretty cool, because research has shown a strong link between music and mood.
〰️
A study conducted by Osaka University found that listening to music in a major key resulted in reduced cortisol levels (that's the stress hormone) and improved happiness.
〰️
It's also been shown to assist in sharper concentration and alert thinking, and has been used in hospitals to assist with pain management and mental wellbeing.
〰️
So, drop that beat - or whatever the cool kids say these days - and give your mood a boost with some music.

GOOD STUFF | Share this 🚀 to get some pay-it-forward vibes going!
〰️
Challenges are a part of being human. However, while we might not be able to control our circumstances, we CAN control how we perceive them.
〰️
It’s important to remember, though, that practicing gratitude is not about a constant sense of positivity. That falls into the category of ‘toxic positivity’ - an implicit encouragement to ignore negative feelings completely.
〰️
The difference is that you can still appreciate the beauty of an overcast day, as the soft light fills your eyes and the cool breeze kisses your cheeks - just as you would a clear blue sky.
〰️
We are strong advocates AGAINST the whole thing. It doesn’t make sense. Not from a psychological, nor a philosophical perspective. Psychologically, research is clear that the more you attempt to push thoughts and feelings away, the stronger they become. Philosophically, how can you experience ‘good’ without experiencing ‘bad’?
〰️
So, why is practicing gratitude a key component of the daily check-ins in your Story of My Life Journal?
〰️
Among other benefits, it's been found to increase the frequency and intensity of positive emotions, improve physical health, assist in dealing with adversity, and help build strong relationships.
〰️
You've likely heard the term neuroplasticity. It basically refers to the brain's ability to form and reorganise connections. By practicing gratitude daily, you're training your mind to view the world in a more positive light, until it eventually becomes an unconscious habit.
