You’ve been good all week. Like, really good.

Eating whole plants, healthy, 50/50 plate.

And then something happens - a hard day, a boring evening, a single stressful moment - and suddenly you’re standing in front of the pantry at 9pm stuffing Oreo’s you bought for the kids.

And the worst part is… you weren’t even hungry.

This is what most weight loss programs don’t teach you.

They give you the “what to eat”.

They never touch on the “why you’re eating what and when you’re eating”.

So you follow the rules perfectly right up until the moment “life” shows up - and then the same old patterns take over, and you’re back at square one wondering what’s wrong with you.

Nothing is wrong with you.

What’s happening is your nervous system has been running on autopilot for years, using food to manage emotions, chase comfort, and escape discomfort.

You don’t lack willpower, you’re just running a habit loop.

And habits can be changed.

You know to eat whole foods, plenty of veg. You’ve known for years. ⁣

So why is the weight still there? ⁣

Because your problem was never actually the food. ⁣

It was never the meal plan, or the macros, or finding the “perfect” plate building method. ⁣

You could follow the most perfect weight loss eating plan on the planet and still sabotage it by Friday…⁣

Not because you’re undisciplined, but because your brain has completely hijacked the process. ⁣

Here’s what I mean:⁣

You’re not overeating because you’re hungry. ⁣

You’re overeating because you’re tired, or stressed, or bored, or because it’s 3pm and that’s just what you do at 3pm. ⁣

You’re eating because your brain is chasing a hit of dopamine, or trying to numb something uncomfortable, or following a loop it learned so long ago you don’t even remember when it started. ⁣

Your body is not the problem. ⁣

Your body actually knows exactly what it needs - when it’s hungry, when it’s full, when it’s had enough. ⁣

Your body has always known. ⁣

It’s your brain that stopped listening. ⁣

And until you address THAT, no perfect meal plan is going to save you.⁣

If you keep reaching for highly processed foods, alcohol, or anything that gives a quick hit when you’re feeling stressed, emotional, bored…

This is why it feels impossible to stop.

Those foods are designed to overstimulate your brain’s reward system.
They create a sharp spike in dopamine which feels like relief, comfort, even escape.

But your brain is always trying to stay balanced.

So when you keep pushing it up with high dopamine hits… it pushes back down.

Lower mood.
Less motivation.
Flat, heavy, sometimes even depressed.

Not because something is wrong with you.
Because your brain is compensating.

And over time, your baseline drops.

So now normal life feels harder.
Small discomfort feels bigger.
And the urge to escape it gets stronger.

That’s the loop.

More stimulation → lower baseline → more need → more pain.

This isn’t a discipline problem.
It’s a learned pattern your brain has adapted to.

And just taking the food away doesn’t fix it.

Because the real issue isn’t the food.
It’s what the food is doing for you.

Relief.
Numbing.
Comfort.
Distraction.

So the work is this:

Removing the stimulating foods from your environment. Period.
Learning how to feel discomfort without needing to escape it
Regulating your nervous system in a healthy way

Then building new ways to meet your emotional needs.

Self love
Breathwork
Hugs from a loved one
Calling a friend
Walking in nature

(Because, you’re human, emotions ain’t going away)

This allows your brain to stabilise again

When your brain learns
“I can feel this and I’m safe”
“I don’t need food to get through this”

Everything starts to change.

Your brain rewires.
Your baseline dopamine & happiness lifts.
Your urges lose intensity.
And food stops feeling like the only option.

If you know exactly what to eat for fat loss on a plant based diet… but:

✖️ You’re not seeing results
✖️ You can’t stay consistent
✖️ Emotions, stress or life events throw you off track

Seeking more “what to eat for fat loss” information isn’t the answer.

That will just keep you spiralling and thinking there’s something wrong with you (if you can’t be consistent), or your body (if you’re not seeing results).

It’s time to go inwards and listen to your body, your emotions and/or your thinking.

Try this instead →

✔️ Identify your specific over-eating or sabotaging pattern.
✔️ Learn to interrupt the automatic pattern when you’re in it.
✔️ Stay present with discomfort of NOT reacting in the moment.
✔️ Understand your deeper need or problem - and what the old behaviour was trying to “solve”.
✔️ And shifting your actions intentionally to ACTUALLY resolve the problem instead of masking it with food.

It’s time to increase your body, emotion & mind awareness, see your patterns, understand your patterns, and learn to retrain yourself to new patterns.

If you can train yourself one way, you can train yourself another - it just takes intentional practise with the right tools.

In 2017 I heard a word no one ever wants to hear - Melanoma.⁣

Thankfully it stage 1 and was caught early.⁣

I wasn’t scared, but once cancer enters your life, even briefly, you start thinking about the future very differently.⁣

I didn’t want melanoma metastasising, that gets nasty.⁣

I already knew the links between animal foods & cancel, so I went vegan immediately.⁣

But the desire to learn more sent me down a rabbit hole.⁣

A friend told me to watch .⁣

That’s where I discovered the work of T. Colin Campbell Plant-Based Nutrition & The China Study.⁣

His research on the connection between animal protein and cancer blew my mind.⁣

I enrolled in his 𝙋𝙡𝙖𝙣𝙩 𝘽𝙖𝙨𝙚𝙙 𝙉𝙪𝙩𝙧𝙞𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣 𝙎𝙩𝙪𝙙𝙞𝙚𝙨 through eCornell &

I moved from vegan to whole food plant based.⁣

And then something wild happened - my whole life changed.⁣

First my health improved dramatically:⁣

✅ My energy returned⁣
✅ Perimenopause symptoms disappeared⁣
✅ Joint pain vanished⁣
✅ My gut healed⁣

Celebrating a few of my incredible clients and their milestone weight loss results.

👉🏻 Francesca - smashed her goal of 10kg in 6 months and achieved 15kg in 6 months! That’s 33lb.

She’s not just built new habits around food & honouring hunger cues, she’s completely transformed her identity.

👉🏻 Cathy - she came to me wanting to release 50lb, but not trusting that she could keep it off.

It hasn’t been easy, many ups and downs, many others would have quit…,

I started The Plant Power Coach in January 2020 with a burning desire to help other women discover the same health and weight loss benefits that I’d discovered when I first went Plant Powered.

I was always ‘pretty healthy’... My mother raised us on a whole foods diet, with most foods we ate being home made, whole food, low in sugar, low in processed foods and low in ‘junk’.

I gave up eating meat in 1994, as I was a passionate animal lover and never really liked the taste anyway. I was vegan for a few years, but after burn out from animal rights activism I drifted back to dairy and eggs again, ignoring my morals in favour of ease of eating.

I still ate what I thought was a healthy vegetarian diet, lots of fresh foods, I cooked most of my own meals from scratch... but I still ate plenty of dairy, cheese and eggs!
