Is Australia really a level playing field? Many believe success is only about talent and hard work. But not everyone starts from the same place or has access to the same resources.

Systemic barriers are often tied to forms of discrimination, like racism. They can block access to education, jobs and resources, making success much harder to achieve for communities who experience racism.

Systems in our society often benefit those already in power which creates inequality.

Racism isn’t just about personal attitudes or isolated incidents. It’s built into the systems that shape our lives like, education, healthcare, jobs, housing, and justice.

These inequalities often go unnoticed unless you’re directly affected. You don’t have to be racist for racism to still exist. Racist systems continue to cause harm.

Focusing only on individual behaviour misses the bigger picture. To tackle racism, we need both personal reflection and collective action to change the systems that uphold inequality.

Recent findings from the NCDA Systemic Advocacy Insight Report highlight growing concerns about the overuse and misuse of adult guardianship orders across Australia.

In Queensland alone, over 12,000 guardianship applications are lodged each year with the Queensland Civil and Administrative Tribunal (QCAT). But how many of these are truly necessary?

This week, we spoke with an advocate from ADA Law Australia to uncover the realities behind guardianship applications and the critical role advocacy plays in challenging unnecessary or inappropriate orders.

Happy International Non-Binary People’s Day to all our non-binary friends! 💛🤍💜🖤

In a (simplified) nutshell, non-binary people are those whose gender sits outside of the spectrum of man or woman, or male and female. Non-binary people use many different pronouns, with some preferring the use of they/them.

Let’s celebrate the rich diversity of genders .

You belong, you are seen, and you are loved.
