Yesterday, our team wore denim in solidarity for Denim Day.

Denim Day traces back to a 1992 case in Italy, where a r**e conviction was overturned based on the claim that tight jeans implied consent. The decision sparked global outrage, with women in the Italian Parliament wearing jeans in protest. That moment became a powerful symbol of challenging harmful myths and shifting the narrative back to where it belongs.

Denim Day continues to highlight the importance of respect, consent, and believing victim-survivors, a reminder of the role we all play in building a more connected and respectful Tasmania.

The inspiring cycle of support!
The Relationships Australia Tasmania team recently dropped in to the Penguin Community Op Shop and what we found was far more than a place to browse or donate. It’s a true cycle of support in action.
Every item donated, every purchase made, and every conversation shared helps give back to the community. All proceeds from the Op Shop are returned locally supporting people ‘doing it tough’ with groceries, a helping hand, fresh veggies, a meal, or simply a friendly face when it’s needed most.
We heard so many stories of kindness…of “pay it forward” moments, of donations finding exactly the right home, and of volunteers showing up day after day with generosity and respect at the heart of everything they do.
It’s this spirit that helps a community not just get by but truly thrive.
A big thank you to Lenny, Angie and all the incredible volunteers who help make Penguin such a welcoming and connected place. You are making a real difference!
It's these everyday acts....the little things that all add up, that contribute towards a more connected and respectful Tasmania.

One sunny (but slightly freezing) Sunday morning, we laced up and joined the Chiya Guff Run Club,a project supported by the Nepali Society of Tasmania.
What we experienced was pretty special!
There was an immediate sense of camaraderie, care and connection. A vibrant, welcoming community built around a culture of wellness, and nurturing both body and mind.
Everyone is welcome and everyone is greeted at the finish line with a hot cup of delicious Chiya tea, shared stories, laughter, and that unmistakable feeling of belonging.
Because it’s more than a running club. It’s a way to connect, with yourself, and with others. One runner summed it up perfectly: “honesty and sweat.” Those real, feel-good moments that stay with you long after the run is done.
Their motto says it all: fitness, friendship and tea.
They celebrate life, and they’ve truly saved a seat for anyone wanting to join. You don’t feel the cold when you’re surrounded by that kind of warmth.
A heartfelt thank you to Rojina, Anish and Aayush and the whole crew for sharing the morning and leading the way toward a more connected and respectful Tasmania.

Last Thursday night in Launceston was one to remember, as Relationships Australia Tasmania joined in the fun at the Veltic AustraliaGames Night. The room was filled with warmth, laughter and plenty of great shared moments.
What makes VELTIC (Volunteers Enriching Lives Through Intercultural Communication) so special is its focus on connection. At its heart is the belief that positive social interactions especially between people from different cultures and life experiences can help build a more peaceful and just world. Creating spaces where friendships can grow isn’t just meaningful, it’s powerful! It’s exactly the kind of environment where understanding deepens, barriers come down, and community thrives -showing a perfect example of how we become a connected and respectful Tasmania.
A big thank you to Debbie and Laura Brumby and all the VELTIC volunteers and community for hosting such a welcoming, fun and inclusive night. Shoutout as well to Danny and Kris for being such good sports (and fun gaming partners) and to Dylan Guardia and his lovely Dad for the great food and venue at Tio Rico 😍🌮
Events like this remind us that strong, positive connections really can change lives.....and maybe even the world.❤️💕

Happy Neighbour Day!

Today is all about the little moments that make a big difference: a wave across the street, a quick chat over the fence, or a smile as you pass by. These simple acts help build connected communities.

Neighbour Day, held on the last Sunday of March, is Relationships Australia’s national day of action and part of the Neighbours Every Day campaign, which encourages connection and belonging all year round. It’s a reminder that while today is a great place to start, neighbourly moments matter every day.

Over the past year, we’ve spoken with more than 1,600 Tasmanians about what connection and respect mean to them. Time and again, people have said that feeling seen, valued, and included, even through small gestures, makes a huge difference.

So this Neighbour Day, take a moment to reach out to those in your neighbourhood. Connection is built through everyday acts of kindness. Keep those small moments going, not just today, but every day! Because it’s often the simplest gestures people remember.

This week marked an important time for the Tasmanian Su***de Prevention Community Network.

It began with the Tasmanian LiFE Awards at the Crowne Plaza, recognising the individuals and organisations working to prevent su***de across our state.

A huge congratulations to all nominees and this year’s outstanding winners:
• Best Practice in a Workplace: NAWIC Tasmania
• Communities in Action: Cygnet Community Hub
• Priority Populations: Albie House
• Outstanding Contribution: IT'S HOPE – Tanya Stephenson (The Grief Recovery Specialist Tasmania)
• Innovative Practice & Research: Miranda Hann

And the momentum didn’t stop there…

On Thursday, the Tasmanian Su***de Prevention Forum — guided by the theme “From the Ground Up” brought people together from across the state, including those with lived experience, community members, service providers, and government representatives.
The day focused on learning, sharing knowledge, and creating space for meaningful conversations about su***de prevention in Tasmania. It was a powerful reminder of the importance of listening, connection, and building understanding together.

A few days filled with passion, reflection and continued commitment to this important work. Thank you to everyone involved.

Recently, Relationships Australia Tasmania achieved Rainbow Tick Accreditation, marking an important milestone for our organisation.

This recognition reflects more than two years of dedicated work to strengthen our policies, systems, workforce capability and service delivery, ensuring LGBTIQA+ inclusive practice is embedded across everything we do.

The accreditation aligns closely with our vision of a connected and respectful Tasmania, where everyone feels respected, included and safe. Creating environments that support these experiences is an important part of building stronger communities.

Congratulations to all those who worked so hard to achieve this milestone.

On Saturday, our team from Relationships Australia Tasmania proudly joined the Pride March, and what a great day!

There was a real sense of joy, love and belonging in the air. Walking alongside community members, families, friends and allies was a powerful reminder of why connection, respect and inclusion matter so much in the work we do every day.

We’re grateful to stand with the LGBTQIA+ community not just on Pride Day, but all year round - supporting safe relationships, inclusive spaces and communities where everyone feels seen and valued.

Thank you to everyone who shared smiles, stories and sunshine with us.
